Objective:By reviewing the relevant literatures and analyzing the clinical materials from18 patients suffered from gingival overgrowth induced by calcium channel blockers,we studied the viable measures for gingival overgrowth induced by calcium channel blockers and aimed at attracting the attention of doctors and patients to make the treatment plan timely in order to reduce the adverse reactions.Methods:(1).Review the literature on gingival overgrowth induced by calcium channel blockers. Learn about the latest research progress at home and abroad.(2).Collect the clinical materials of 18 patients diagnosed as gingival overgrowth induced by calcium channel blockers who received treatment in the Periodontal Department of Stomatology Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from March 2014 to February 2015. The probing depth(PD), sulcus bleeding index(BI), plaque index(PLI), and gingival hyperplastic index(GHI) were examined. All patients were taken rotational panoramic radiography in order to realize the level of alveolar resorption. All information collected above were summarized.Results:(1).In the 18 patients suffered from gingival overgrowth induced by calciumchannel blockers, 11 patients were male and the rest were female, the largest portion were in 56-70 age class.(2).Only two patients see the doctor because of gingival overgrowth, accounting for 11.1%.(3).When the gingivitis get better, the gingival overgrowth were turned better at the same time.(4).Drug-induced gingival overgrowth were reducd with basis periodontal therapy. The long-term effect remains to be observed. Conclusion:The gingival overgrowth induced by calcium channel blockers has a lot of related influence factors and the mechanism is still not clear. Elementary periodontal therapy can is effective for drug-induced gingival overgrowth, but patients always ignore it, prompting that internists should emphasize the importance of oral health before patients use calcium channel blockers. Dentists should pay more attention to the patients who was diagnosised as gingival overgrowth induced by calcium channel blockers, preventing the occurrence of drug- induced gingival overgrowth in advance. In addition, education to patients and enhancement of their awareness on the drug-induced adverse reaction of periodontal are also important.Key Words: calcium channel blocker; drug-induced gingival overgrowth; periodontal...
