Objective To investigate the relationship between resting heart rate(RHR) and brachialankle pulse wave velocity(ba PWV).Methods A total of 5 852 participants was selected with stratified random sampling from the 101 510 workers of Tangshan Kai Luan company who received the health examination. 5 153 of them with integral data were recruited into the survey. The observation population was divided into four groups according to RHR collected during 2010~2011 health examinations: quartile 1(RHR≤63 bpm); quartile 2(63 bpm<RHR≤69 bpm); quartile 3(69 bpm<RHR≤76 bpm); quartile 4(RHR>76 bpm). Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to analyze the correlation between RHR and ba PWV. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the influence of RHR on ba PWV.Results 1 There were 3 110 males and 2 043 females in 5 153 participants with an average age of 55.12 years old. The mean RHR was(70.48±11.03) bpm. The mean of ba PWV was(1 586±400) cm/s and the detection rates of ba PWV≥1400cm/s was 61.8%. 2 The mean of ba PWV for the above quartiles of RHR were 1 511, 1 533, 1 574 and 1 734cm/s, respectively; and the detection rates of ba PWV≥1 400cm/s were 54.7%, 56.0%, 63.1% and 74.3%, respectively. 3 Multiple linear regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age, gender and other risk factors, the average effect of a 1bpm increase in RHR on ba PWV were 7.09 cm/s, 7.07 cm/s and 5.13cm/s in all population,in male and in female(all P<0.01), respectively. 4 Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age, gender and other risk factors, compared to quartile 1, the risk of increasing ba PWV was increased in quartile 2, 3 and 4 of RHR and the OR values were 1.37(95% CI 1.11~1.69), 1.96(95% CI 1.59~2.41) and 2.60(95% CI 2.07~3.25), respectively. Conclusion Higher RHR is positively associated with increasing ba PWV.
