Research Background Epilepsy, also known as " seizures ", it is a syndrome, which is caused by a variety of highly synchronized abnormal discharge brain neurons, characterized with transient and usually stereotyped functional disorders of the central nervous system The International League Against Epilepsy defines it as a group characterized with a constant tendency to seizures and the corresponding neurobiological, cognitive, psychological and social consequences of brain diseases [5-6].Epilepsy tablets consist of Saruma henryi Oliv, Acorus tatarinowii, Uncaria rhynchophylla, Semen Pharbiridis, Euphorbialathyris L. Valeriana officinalis L, Nardostachys jatamansi DC, Menthol and other components, with its strong fragrance, and bulk of power, it is declared as an excellent medicine to smooth the breath and blood-circulation, with its aromatic dampness, it is able to refresh spleen and strengthen the stomach, as well as to eliminate phlegm, dissipate dampness, harmonize the stomach, manage qi and activate blood and other effects. The major function of Epilepsy tablets is for epilepsy caused by wind phlegm. In recent years, it has been widely used in the therapy of Primary and secondary epilepsy, being combined with western medicine, enhance advantage and avoid disadvantage toenhance its effect, and improve the side effects caused by western medicine.Carbamazepine is a common psychiatric drug, which can reduce the nerve cell membrane Na + and Ca2 + permeability, thereby reducing cell excitability and prolong the refractory period; it may enhance the function of transfer of synapse of γ- aminobutyric acid GABA To strengthen synapses late tonic inhibition, limit the spread of epileptic foci of abnormal discharge. The major metabolite of carbamazepine is carbamazepine 10,11-epoxide, which has anticonvulsant effects of anti neuralgia. The role of anti-psychotic and mania may inhibit the ignition role of the limbic system and temporal lobes. Chemical and similar tricyclic antidepressants have the function of anticholinergic activity, antidepressants, inhibit neuromuscular transmission and joint anti-rhythm disorders and so on.Research objective Through the observation of clinical data, the statistical analysis of joint research of the treatment of epilepsy tablets and epilepsy antiepileptic medicine carbamazepine, we can further evaluate the combination treatment of Chinese and western medicine in epilepsy.Research Methods The research method of this topic is clinical investigation, it investigates the epileptics in Shiyan City People’s Hospital, from March 2013 to September 2014,who are in epilepsy specialist clinics and neurology, neurosurgery ward hospitalized patients with epilepsy, we pick out 76 patients as cases, who meet the diagnostic criteria,through Stochastic Equilibrium method, theyare divided into treatment group and control group, the treatment group is supplemented with epilepsy tablets on the basis of a single treatment with carbamazepine, while the control group of patients takecarbamazepine alone. After some time, we collect the statistics of the clinical parameters of each group of patients before and after treatment, such as detecting and recording the EEG, seizure frequency, seizure extent, whether the symptoms are alleviated, etc., all those are recorded and analyzed.Results 1. Clinical efficacy of statistics: The total effective rate was 78%, the total effective rate was 52% in the control group. There was a significant difference(p <0.05) in treatment group and the control group. 2. Comparison of epileptic patients before and after treatment onset and frequency of 76 cases: the treatment group were significantly different(p <0.05)from the control group. 3. EEG changes: the treatment group, there are 31 cases of abnormalities in EGG before treatment, after the joint therapy of epilepsy tablets and carbamazepine, EEG has 23 cases of varying degrees of improvement. Improvement rate was 74.19%; control group, there are 31 cases of abnormalities in EEG before treatment EEG abnormalities, after a single treatment with carbamazepine, EEG has 14 cases of varying degrees of improvement. Improvement rate was 45.16%. There are significant differences between the two groups(p <0.05). 4. The side effects of medication: In this study, the treatment group,some patients who had the symptoms of thirsty, mild dizziness and stomach discomfort and others, but do not affect the patients’continuing of medication, no special treatment were given. In the control group, some patients had the symptoms of nausea, lethargy and others, which are improved after giving symptomatic and supportive treatment, which does not affect the continuing medication. Conclusion As an adjunct to the treatment of epilepsy, Epilepsy tablets proved efficient, it can improve the symptoms of patients with epilepsy to some extent, reduce the frequency of the disease, worthy of further clinical practice.
