Objective: This article aims to evaluate the orthodontic treatment outcomes of 80 cases by Peer Assessment Rating(PAR), to analyze the application of Peer Assessment Rating and some clinical factors influencing it, and to try to provide some references for orthodontic clinical practice and the establishment of orthodontic treatment outcomes evaluation system in China.Material and Methods: 80 subjects(37 males and 43 females) who received labial fixed orthodontic treatment executed by one same orthodontist and had been finished from January 2012 to June 2014 were collected and evaluated in this study. They all had permanent dentition and agreed to participate in this study. The age, gender, classification of Angle, classification of Mao, skeletal pattern, extraction, type of appliance, cooperation, satisfaction, pre-treatment PAR, posttreatment PAR, reduction of PAR and percentage reduction of PAR were collected and analyzed by statistics. Results: The pre-treatment PAR was 28.96±11.92,post-treatment PAR was 3.43±2.43,reduction of PAR was 25.54±12.13 and percentage reduction of PAR was 0.85±0.15. 42.5% of patients were improved and 56.3% of patients were greatly improved. The T-test and ANOVA showed that there was no significant difference in different groups of gender, classification of Angle, classification of Mao, skeletal pattern, extraction, type of appliance in terms of their cooperation, satisfaction, posttreatment PAR and percentage reduction of PAR; and there was a significant difference in different groups of classification of Angle in terms of pre-treatment PAR and reduction of PAR, and a significant difference in different groups of type of appliance in terms of pre-treatment PAR and reduction of PAR. The analysis of correlation showed that there was a strong correlation between pre-treatment PAR and reduction of PAR, and a correlation between percentage reduction of PAR and pre-treatment PAR, post-treatment PAR, reduction of PAR respectively. The linear regression showed that there was a linear regression between pre-treatment PAR and reduction of PAR, and one between pre-treatment PAR and percentage reduction of PAR.Conclusions: PAR is an effective index in eva luating orthodontic treatment outcomes. The cases showed a pleasant orthodontic outcome. The degree of improvement that the PAR illustrates was less influenced by these factors above. The severity of malocclusion in the d ifferent groups of classification of Angle and type of appliance was differential, however, the treatment outcomes and degrees of improvement of malocclusion was not of difference. As the PAR evaluates, influenced by several factors, the more severe initial malocclusion the patients had, the more significant improvement they finally obtained.
