Comparison Of Plaque Removal Effects By Tooth Brushing With Dentifrice And Clear Water

Objective: The study has verified the effects of different tooth brushing methods of using dentifrice and clear water on removing dental plaque by guiding participants to adopt the correct tooth brushing method(the Bass method).Method: By adopting the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the author carries out a baseline examination for 70 volunteers and divided them into two groups in a random way, which are the test group and the control group. Before the test begins, an assigned dentist shall determine the TQHPI and the GI of the 70 participants and teach them to brush their teeth using the Bass method. Each participants shall be instructed by the assistant to brush teeth correctly, firstly observing them brush the model teeth and then them practice inside their mouth. The assistant shall correct them on any incorrectness.Once the experiment starts, the test group need to use specific dentifrice while persons in the control group can only use toothbrush. All of them must brush twice everyday and each time for three to five minutes. The experiment shall last for 8 weeks.Afterwards, the TQHPI and the GI of the participants from two groups should be checked. All of this shall be carried out by the same dentist. The experimental data is to be analyzed utilizing the SPSS 13.0 software package.Results: There is no statistical significance(P>0.05) for the TQHPI & GI differences for the two groups before the test begins, which shows that the participants share the same TQHPI & GI. After eight weeks’ trial, there is a significant decrease in both TQHPI and GI(P<0.05). However, when comparing the TQHPI and GI between the two groups after the trial, we find no obvious difference(P>0.05). It indicated thatthere is a similar reduction in the TQHPI and GI for both groups.Conclusion: Both tooth brushing methods, whether using dentifrice or only with clear water, have same effect on dental plaque removal on the premise that the correct tooth brushing method(the Bass method) is adopted.
