Study Of Innervation In Superficial Fascia Of Concealed Penis In Children

Objective:Concealed penis (CP) is defined as covering of the penile shaft and glans by adjacent tissues, otherwise the corpus cavernosum is normally developed, redundant dartos fascia attached to the deeper tissue layers. literatures reported that the dartos should be resected in order to avoid turgid swelling and scars accretion. There were few literature reported about the innervation with dartos. The aim of this study is to investigate the innervation within the dartos of CP, in order to provide useful information for clinical practice.Methods:From August2014to December2014,28cases of CP and29cases of inguinal hernia were enrolled in the Children s Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine. The tissue samples of superficial fascia were harvested during the CP repair and hernia repair. During the de-glove, the superficial fascia on middle shaft of penis located at 3,6,9,12o’clock were harvested. They were recorded by using hematoxylin and eosin staining(HE) and S-100immunohistochemical staining. The difference of innervation of superficial fascia between penis and inguinal region and the four sites of penile shaft were compared by oneway ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U test,Results:The number of nerve plexus at3o’clock were5.50(1.0～11.0),6o’clock were7.25(1.0-24.0),9o’clock were5.0(2.0-15.0) and12o’clock were4.0(1.0～11.0) per unit area, there were1.07(0.0～3.0) in inguinal hernia. The number of nerve plexus located in inguinal area was larger than penile area(P＜0.01); the nerve number at6o’ clock was larger than12o’clock (P<0.01); the nerve number at6o’clock was also larger than3and9o’clock (P＜0.05).Conclusions:1. The superficial fascia of penis contains more nerve plexus than that of inguinal region.2. The highest contribution of nerve plexus of superficial fascia of penis is at6o’clock.
