ObjectiveTo investigate and describe the prevalence of anemia among2185adults in JilinProvince, and to explore relevant influencing factors such as dietary factors, nutritionalfactors and behavior factors,in order to provide evidence for effective interventions.MethodsA total of2715adults in Jilin province, which were sampled through multistagestratified random cluster sampling method, were enrolled in the questionnaire survey, physical examination and laboratory examination. Questionnaire survey was accomplishedin form of face-to-face interviews consisting of concentrated survey and household survey. Each investigator was trained. Questionnaire included demographic information (such asgender, age, ethnic, cultural degree, marital status, occupation and income), andhealth-related behaviors factors (such as smoking, drinking and physical activity). Physicalexamination mainly included height and weight. Laboratory examination includedhemoglobin test.“Nutrition and health monitoring system platform of Jilin Province” wasused in data entry, and SPSS13.0was used in data analysis. General demographiccharacteristics of respondents were described using ratio. The prevalence of anemia indifferent populations were described using rate. The distribution of anemia in differentpopulation differences were accomplished based on chi-square test. And the influencefactors of anemia were accomplished using Logistic regression analysis.Results1. A total of2185valid questionnaires were collected. Age of subjects ranged from18to95.8years old, average age (50.80±14.65). There were968males (44.30%) and1217females (55.70%), where male to female ratio was0.80:1. There were1070urban residents(48.97%) and1115rural residents (51.03%), where urban to rural ratio was0.96:1.2. The prevalence of anemia among2185cases of adults in Jilin Province was 11.67%(urban:13.18%, rural:10.22%; male:16.32%, female:7.97%). The prevalence ofanemia in urban was higher than that in rural. And the prevalence of anemia among maleswas higher than that among females. The prevalence of anemia among adults ranging from18to44years old was13.68%, it was higher than the other two age groups. The prevalenceof anemia has significant difference in different cultural degree and occupation.3. The average intake of cereals, vegetables and meat between the anemia andnon-anemia among2185cases of adults in Jilin Province differs markedly. It also has asignificant difference on the average intake of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, cupreousbetween the anemia and non-anemia (P<0.05).4. Through multi-factor Logistic regression analysis, it showed that vitamin C, iron, smoking, drinking were associated with iron deficiency anemia (P<0.05), as follows:vitamin C (OR=0.571,95%CI=0.251~0.906), Fe(OR=0.831,95%CI=0.769~0.897), smoking(OR=1.84,95%CI=1.507~4.807), drinking (OR=2.759,95%CI=1.283~5.932). Vitamin C andiron were protective factors, smoking and drinking were risk factors of iron deficiencyanemia.Conclusions1. The prevalence of anemia among2185cases of adults in Jilin province was11.67%.The prevalence of males was16.32%, and the prevalence of females was7.97%.2. The prevalence of anemia among adults in urban was higher than that in rural, theprevalence in18~44age group was higher than in others, the prevalence in juniorcollege/vocational college was higher than other educations and that in students was higherthan other careers.3. Among the diet-related factors, vitamin C and iron were protective factor of irondeficiency anemia.4. Among the health-related behaviors, smoking and drinking were risk factors of irondeficiency anemia.
