Objective: To review comprehensively the medical records of hospitalized patients who had been diagnosed with Peripheral Faial Paralysis and treated by acupuncture in Acupuncture Department of Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Preliminarily analyze the characteristics of Peripheral Faial Paralysis, and summarize the characteristics and regularity of the treatment for Peripheral Faial Paralysis in our hospital, then objectively evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture for the diagnosis and treatment of Peripheral Faial Paralysis in our hospital, so as to provide references for the acupuncture treatment of the disease.Method: The form for collecting medical records was devised based on the purpose mentioned previously. Look up the record numbers of all the patients diagnosed of Peripheral Faial Paralysis from January 2010 to December 2014 from the medical records database of the hospital, then check each record one after another according to the record numbers, and record the basic information, symptoms, signs, important laboratory and radiological findings related to the disease, treatment methods, curative effects and so on into the forms. All the data was input to the computer separately and SPSS 19.0 was used for the statistics and analysis of the information.Result: 1. 169 cases were collected in the study. The disease has little to do with gender,and the age of onset was almost more than 40 years old, according for 62.72%. Most of the cases happened in spring and winter, according for 57.40%.2. Attack of wind-cold was the main pathogenesis of this disease.3. The syndrome type in TCM of the disease was mainly “blockage of collaterals due to cold-dampness”, according for 52.07%.4. For the treatment, most patients were treated by acupuncture; the points selected were mainly in the local lesions from Stomach Meridian; most patients were treated by combination of TDP, electroacupuncture, oral medicine and so on.5. Patients included in the study were mainly Bell’s facial paralysis; the treatment period is mainly about 15 days to 1 month.Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment for Peripheral Faial Paralysis has good efficacy. The clinical data further confirmed that the peripheral facial paralysis was closely related to the treatment opportunity, degree and position of the facial nerve damage; Combination of acupuncture, oral medicine, or other external treatment therapies can promote the rehabilitation of peripheral facial paralysis.
