ObjectiveTo investigate the psychiatric status on patients with thecommon nasal diseases such as deviation of nasal septum andchronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP),and to observetheir postoperative change.MethodsA qualitative study was conducted to survey the anxiety anddepression of41patients with deviation of nasal septum and44patients with CRSwNP undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery,incontrast to that of31patients with polyp of vocal cordundergoing resection of polyp of vocal cord under thelaryngoscope with microscope, and39healthy individual, at thebaseline and at3-month’s postoperatively by self-rating anxietyscale(SAS), self-rating depression scale(SDS).ResultsThe prevalence of preoperative anxiety and depression onnasal disease is higher than that of control group. The prevalenceof postoperative anxiety and depression on nasal disease is lowerthan that of preoperation. According to the sequence ofpreoperative SAS and SDS score from high to low is the deviationof nasal septum group, CRSwNP group, vocal cord polyp group, healthy group (P<0.01). There is a significant difference betweenthe preoperative and postoperative group in score of SAS andSDS (P<0.05). There is no significant difference among groups ofdifferent gender patients in SDS scores.33.33%of patients withnasal disease who have preoperative anxiety, don’t get a reliefafter surgery.26.7%of patients in the group of deviation of nasalseptum and35.7%of patients in the group of CRSwNP who havepreoperative depression, don’t get a relief after surgery.ConclusionThe anxiety and depression are prevalent in patients withdeviation of nasal septum or CRSwN. On the whole the score ofanxiety and depression can be significant relieved after surgery.But1/3of patients who have preoperative anxiety and depressiondon’t get a relief after surgery. It deserves to pay more attention tothe emotional reactions of inpatients with nasal diseases,psychological interventions against such negative emotionsshould be taken to patients when treating the somatic diseases...
