At present, the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine is a health force, which exists with the TCM and Western medicine side by side. Dermatology is a clinically important subject. Since the mid-1950-s, the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine of dermatology has made encouraging progress in the aspects of academic development and discipline construction.This paper has carried on a preliminary study on the development of the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine of dermatology on the aspects of academic development and discipline construction.Academic history includes six parts, which are the classification of dermatology, the control study on the Chinese and Western disease names, the diagnostic models of intergration of Chinese and Western medicine of dermatology, the research on the indications of commonly used traditional Chinese medicine treatment, the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine research results about common and refractory diseases, the clinical observations and pharmacological experiments on the commonly used medicine in the dermatology.The classification of individual things marks the depth of one’s recognition on the general charater of things. The method for the classification of dermatosis reflects the development level of the dermatology from one aspect. The chapter about the classification of dermatology includes4parts, which are the classifications according to the skin lesion in the external medical system in TCM, the classifications in the woks of amalgamation of traditional Chinese and western medicine, the classifications in Western medicine dermatology, and the classifications in the system of the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine of dermatology. From the presenting about the classification context, we can know,the understanding on the dermatology is developing and deeping.After the western medicine was introduced into China, the control study on the Chinese and western disease names has become the first problem of the academic communication between the western medicine and TCM. In modern times, in the earliest dermatology works, the Western medicine skin disease names are direct transliteration words, and then the fixed and universal Chinese disease name appeared. With the development of medical conditions, the modern physicians has begun to explore the rule of skin disease name and the relationship between the Chinese and western skin disease names. And the special works have been published.The evolution of diagnosis and treatment patterns of intergration of Chinese and Western medicine marks the development of the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine of dermatology. With the change of the era, differernt diagnosis models appeared. This paper expounds the process of development of the diagnosis and treatment patterns, which is from the simple addition of Chinese and western medicine, to the combination of differential diagnosis of disease in western medicine and syndrome differentiation in TCM, to the microcosmic syndrome differentiation.The methods of activating blood circulation, nourishing blood skin, removing heat to cool blood and kidney are important principles in TCM. These methods are also widely used in the treatment of skin diseases. The dermatologist workers not only have explored the indications of these methods, but also made experimental study on the mechanism of action. This chapter has made a review on the situation of application of these methods in dermatology.Lupus, psoriasis, scleroderma, pemphigus, eczema and other diseases are the hotspots in research of dermatology. The treatment method of the intergration of Chinese and Western medicine of these diseases is superior to other methods. In this chapter, I have made discussions on the treatment and research work and the latest research progress of these diseases.At present, the studies on the chemical composition of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and their pharmacological activity research has made remarkable achievements. The modern research of Chinese traditional medicine can provide basis and reference for clinical application. In this chapter, I have made discussions on the clinical observation and pharmacological experimental research work of the20dermatologist commonly used traditional Chinese medicine which have been proved to have the effects of regulating immunity, improving microcirculation, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, antiviral and inhibition of allergy.The academic development history includes3parts. First, I have introduced the formation and development of the Skin venereal Institute of combined traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and the establishment and contributions of the Chinese Journal of Dermatovenerology of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine. In the second part, I have introduced the construction of the representative professional medical institutions and research institutions and the condition of education. In the third part, I have introduced the main content of several representative works and the contribution of several representative and academic ideas.
