Objective:Primarily investigate the features of five-pattern personality in patients with psoriasis vulgaris. Attempt to provide a comprehensive treatment including prevention, psychological intervention and health education for the future clinical practice.Method:A total of96patients with psoriasis vulgaris were randomly collected from the outpatient and inpatient dermatological department of Sichuan Provincial Hospital of TCM from December2013to March2014. Patients received assessment using questionnaires including general information, the Five-Pattern Personality scale, TCM syndrome type, Psoriasis staging and PASI. Excluding12invalid questionnaires, statistics from other86cases were adopted for advanced analyzing using software SPSSvl9.00.Result:1.Compared with the National norm of south-west population, psoriasis vulgaris patients got lower scores in Taiyang and Taiyin dimensions and higher scores in adjusted Yang-yin ratio.2.Male patients scored higher than female patients in Yinyang-Pinghe dimension, suggesting that male patients get better balanced in personality than that of female patients.3.Goups among TCM Syndrome differentiations, psoriasic staging, PASI levels are not statistically different in five-pattern personality in patients with psoriasis vulgaris.4.The scores in Shaoyin dimension among different groups of the onset age were significantly different (P<0.01). There exists a low degree of positive correlation (r=0.368) between Shaoyin personality score and the onset age of psoriasis.5.Patients initially onseted in summer scored significantly higher in Shaoyang dimension than those in winter. They also scored higher in Yang and adjusted Yang-Yin ratio, along with a lower score in Yin than those initially onseted in winter, suggesting that there is a TCM "body constitution" tendency between the two seasonal groups mentioned above.Conclusion:1.Patients with psoriasis vulgaris got lower scores in Taiyang and Taiyin dimensions and higher scores in adjusted Yang-yin ratio than healthy people, suggesting that "excessive heat" is the TCM pathogenesis in psoriasis.2. TCM syndrome type, psoriasis staging and PASI level do not interrelated to the five-pattern personality.3. The differentiation among groups of the onset age and the initial onset season indicates that the five pattern personality reflects a dual attribute both in psychological and physiological status. Thus shows a potential value in the future clinic using.4. Traditional Chinese medicine has a unique theory in etiology, pathogenesis and therapy of psoriasis. TCM is effective in treating psoriasis. The integrated TCM model in treatment, prevention, health education and psychological intervention can lead to a efficient way both in improving the therapuetic efficacy, easing the doctor-patient relationship and enhancing the economic benefits at the same time. It will likely being a possible trend in meeting the demands for the transformation of TCM in modern ages.
