Objective1To translate the Global Pain Scale (GPS) into Chinese and evaluate the reliability and validity of the Global Pain Scale of Chinese version for chronic pain suffers in China.2To explore the major influence factors to the global pain scale in chronic pain suffers in order to provide evidence for the further interventions.MethodsAfter receiving the permission of the Global pain scale’s author, we translated the scale into Chinese. The Chinese version of GPS was translated from the original, back-translated and adjusted for cultural adaptation. The survey was multi-center cluster randomized. The scale was used in230cases of chronic pain suffers in the form of questionnaire survey. The reliability including internal consistency reliability and split reliability and the validity including content validity and construct validity, were analyzed. Result230chronic pain suffers were administered the GPS. The field test demonstrated excellent reliability with the Cronbach’s a coefficient of0.950; The Content validity was excellent which I-CVI was0.67~1.00, S-CVI/UA was0.5and S-CVI/Ave was0.90.3common factors were extracted with cumulative contribution rate of71.447%, which demonstrated a good constructive validity. The loading of each item on the corresponding factors was higher than0.4. The average score of GPS was39.56±18.31, which showed no difference between the two hospitals.ConclusionsThe Chinese version of GPS is a valid scale that is concise and easily interpreted; the evidence collected in this study has shown good reliability and validity. The Chinese version of GPS may be a valuable tool for evaluating the level of pain in patients with chronic pain.
