Objective:To evaluati the rate of residual disease in the thyroid gland and rate of cervical lymph node metastasis after preliminary local resections in thyroid cancer, to investigate the necessity and time of reoperation for thyroid carcinoma and analyzed the cause of reoperation.Methods:To analysis the clinical data of reoperation of159cases with thyroid carcinoma from Jan.2008to Nov.2013.Results:The rate of residual disease at the primary site was38.99%. The lymph node metastatic rate at level VI was32.7%. The rate of lymph node metastasis was56.6%.Conclusions:Because of the high residual cancer rate of local mass resection for thyroid carcinoma, reoperation is necessary.The exploration to level VI is needed for thyroid cancer.
