ObjectivesIn lighting of limited teaching resource of nursing caring education and teachingmethod domestically as well as research on constructing program of teaching processintegrated with a new teaching method——nursing narrative pedagogy, our researchaims at designing a narrative teaching system of nursing caring education, whichcombined narrative materials and matched guidance of narrative teaching process, thatcontributes to providing comprehensive, professional and convenient teaching resourceand guidance for nursing caring education and training in nursing school, as well as inclinical practice.Contents and methods1. Literature survey was used to obtain the data of the current state and trends ofresearch about teaching strategy and teaching method of nursing caring education,focusing on the forms, narrative materials, teaching process of narrative pedagogy innursing caring education.2. Participant observation and behavioral event interview were used to obtain thetrue caring story of clinic nurses and experiences of suffering sickness of patients.Literature research was used to get the data of literature, films, photographs and paintings,which focus on nursing caring characters. Based on the preliminary study of theoreticalmodel of human caring in nursing, content analysis was used to analyze the data ofobservation and interview. Then include materials into the data according to the inclusioncriteria.3. All the materials were processed artistically based on the requirements of nursingnarrative pedagogy. Next step was design how to present these materials. Texts of storieswere made into digital stories with words, pictures and music. Films and pictures wereclipped and edited.4. Five steps of narrative teaching process and matched teaching process programwere put forward based on theoretical research and preliminary study. Under theguidance of the teaching process, design the instruction of materials independently,which help teachers to use narrative materials more effectively and conveniently. 5. Then construct the framework of materials to divide these materials according tothe human living period and characteristic of physiology and psychology. Finally, thenursing narrative teaching system was designed with assistance of multimediainformation technology.ResultsA teaching system of narrative nursing combined narrative materials with matchedteaching process program together was designed. It consisted of five themes, which areWelcome the Newborns, Accompany with Children and Teens, Care for the Adults, BeTogether with Elders, Say Farewell to the dying, and four kinds of narrative materials andprogram of narrative teaching process. There are106materials in all.1.“Welcome the Newborns” focus on the caring in the maternal and infants nursing,which consists of different peoples’ life story, such as women with spontaneous delivery,experienced caesarean section and induced labor, newborn, family member, medicalstaffs and so on. There are11digital stories,5media materials,2sets of photos, and1recommended book.2.“Accompany with Children and Teens” focus on the caring in the pediatricnursing, which refers to sufferance of sickness of children with cancer, congenital heartdisease, diabetes mellitus, blood disease, cerebral palsy and burn, as well as nursingproblems. It contains13digital stories,3media materials,3sets of photos, and3recommended books.3.“Care for the Adults” focus on the caring in the adult nursing, which consists ofstories of different patients, reflections of medical staffs when they were ill, and caringstories between patients and nurses.17digital stories,4media materials,3sets of photos,and3recommended books are included.4.“Be Together with Elders” focus on the caring for the aged, which refers topsychological nursing for the aged, the experiences of care giver, and reflection of thenursing care of nurses. There are8digital stories,2media materials,5sets of photos, and2recommended books.5.“Say Farewell to the dying” focus on the palliative care, which refers to care forthe child, adult, the elderly in the terminal stage, and bereavement counseling and so on.It contains10digital stories,5media materials,2sets of photos, and5recommendedbooks. ConclusionThe nursing narrative teaching system, with practical and popularized value,provided thematic,comprehensive,varied and convenient teaching resource and practicalteaching strategy and guidance for nursing caring education and training in nursingschool, as well as in clinical practice.
