| ObjectiveTo observe the expression of Gli-1and MMP-11in esophageal squamous cellcarcinoma (ESCC), tumor-adjacent tissues and normal tissues, and to investigate theexpression and clinical significance of Gli-1and MMP-11protein in esophageal squamouscell carcinoma.MethodsThe expression of Gli-1and MMP-11proteins was tested by immunohistochemistryin36cases esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, tumor-adjacent tissues and9casesnormal esophageal tissues.Results1. In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma,tumor-adjacent tissues and normaltissues, the positive expression rate of Gli-1were55.6%(20/36),13.9%(5/36),and11.1%(1/9)respectively,there was significant difference between group(P<0.05).The expressionof Gli-1protein in tumor-adjacent and normal tissues was lower than that in esophagealsquamous cell carcinoma. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Nodifference was found between tumor-adjacent and normal tissues about the expression ofGli-1protein (P>0.05).2. The expression of Gli-1was not only much lower in T1~T2than that in T3~T4(P<0.05) but also much lower in clinical stage â… ~â…¡ than that in â…¢~â…£(P<0.05). Theexpression of Gli-1was higher in nodal metastases group than that in group without nodalmetastases (P<0.05).No correlations were found between Gli-1protein and age, gender, tumor location, Tumor diameter, the degree of differentiation (P>0.05).3. In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, tumor-adjacent tissues and normal tissues, the positive expression rate of MMP-11were69.4%(25/36),25.0%(9/36),and22.2% (2/9)respectively, there was significant difference between group(P<0.05).The expressionof MMP-11protein in tumor-adjacent and normal tissues was lower than that inesophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).No difference was found between tumor-adjacent and normal tissues about the expressionof MMP-11protein (P>0.05).4. The expression of MMP-11was not only much lower in T1~T2than that inT3~T4(P<0.05) but also much lower in clinical stage â… ~â…¡ than that in â…¢~â…£ (P<0.05).The expression of MMP-11was higher in nodal metastases group than that in groupwithout nodal metastases (P<0.05). No correlations were found between MMP-11proteinand age, gender, tumor location, Tumor diameter, the degree of differentiation (P>0.05).5. The expression of Gli-1and MMP-11in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma waspositive correlation.Conclusion1. Gli-1is associated with invasion and metastasis of esophageal squamous cellcarcinomas.2. MMP-11is associated with invasion and metastasis of esophageal squamous cellcarcinomas.3. Up-regulation of Gli-1and MMP-11might be involved in the development ofesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and they might play a promoting role in the invasionand metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.4. Combined detection of Gli-1and MMP-11proteins may provide a theoretical basisfor clinical diagnosis and treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). |
