Objectives:1. Analysis the relationship between ischemic stroke and travel through differentclimate zones in autumn and winter.2. We aimed at evaluating the mechanisms involved in the high incidence ofstroke with respect to the changes in the different climate zones.Methods:1.(1) We randomly collected some middle-aged and elderly people in Sanya whocome from northeast, northwest and of China (middle-aged and elderly northerners inSanya for short, MENIS), devided them in3groups on the time they arrived at Sanya:MENIS stay in Sanya more than1year, MENIS come to Sanya in spring and summer,MENIS come to Sanya in autumn and winter. According to the ratio of each part, weestimate the number of MENIS in each group.(2) We collected MENIS who getischemic stroke in autumn and winter in4large hospitals in Sanya.(3) We calculate the ischemic stroke incidence in autumn and winter of MENIS in each group, and theischemic stroke incidence of MENIS after traveled in Spring and Summer, in autumnand winter, respectively.(4) Pearson X2was used to compare the ischemic strokeincidence in each group.2. Data from291MENIS in4large hospitals in Sanya were collected. TheseMENIS had traveled in autumn and winter. The patients were divided into2groups onthe basis of whether they had suffered a stroke within3weeks of arriving at Sanya:144patients were included in the case group and147patients in the control group. Theinfarction-type was judged according to the CT or MRI. Differences between the2groups were examined using Pearson X2test or Student’s t test. Logistic regressionanalysis was applied to identify the independent factors.Results:1.(1)The ischemic stroke incidence in autumn and winter of MENIS stay in Sanyamore than1year, MENIS come to Sanya in Spring and Summer, MENIS come toSanya in autumn and winter were1.718/thousand,2.98.5/thousand and3.997/thousand.The incidence of ischemic stroke in autumn and winter of MENIS come to Sanya inautumn and winter was higher than MENIS stay in Sanya more than1year, and MENIScome to Sanya in spring and summer.(2) The ischemic stroke incidence of MENIS aftertraveling in autumn and winter was higher than those traveling in Spring and Summer.2. Risk factors of ischemic stroke in MENIS travelling through different climatezones in autumn and winter were male gender (OR=3.217), a history of cerebrovasculardisease (OR=3.747), abnormal glucose metabolism (OR=11.938), cerebral arterialstenosis (OR=15.966), hyperhomocysteinemia (OR=3.157), temperature differencelarge than30℃(OR=3.510) and blood pressure after travel (OR=0.931).. Watershedinfarction was found in78.48%(113/144) patients.Conclusions:1. Ischemic stroke observed in middle-aged and elderly people who had travelledbetween different climate zones in autumn and winter is a special type ischemic stroke, its occurrence may be related to climate zone changes and individual factors. 2. Ischemic stroke in middle-aged and elderly people who had travelled betweendifferent climate zones in autumn and winter is related to the change in climate zones.Hemodynamic change due to the change in climate zones may result in ischemic strokein these patients. We can take preventive and therapeutic measures based on thecausative factors. These findings have implications for future clinical practice andresearch.
