Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of endoscopic andopen operation by meta-analysis.Method Relevant literatures were searched using MEDLINE,Cochrane library,CNKI,Wanfang Data and related meetings. Randomized controlled trials thatcompared endoscopic and open operation were included in the meta-analysis from1989to2014. All literatures were assessed by the inclusion and exclusion criteria, quality assessment and data abstraction. The meta analysis was performed by RevMan5.0software.Results Twenty-two literatures were included into the meta analysis. There were1962cases including930cases in the endoscopic group and1032cases in the opengroup. There was no difference between groups in time of operation (MD=1.96;95%CI [-0.25,4.18],P=0.08),postoperative remission (MD=0.87;95%CI [0.55,1.39],P=0.57),postoperative complications (MD=0.67;95%CI [0.42,1.05],P=0.08) andsatisfaction (MD=1.58;95%CI [0.96,2.60],P=0.07).The cases treated withendoscopic carpal tunnel release showed greater pinch strength (MD=0.77;95%CI[0.13,1.41],P=0.02) and grip strength (MD=5.25;95%CI [0.03,10.48],P=0.05).Conclusion Patients treated with endoscopic group showed greater pinch strengthand grip strength. There was no difference between groups in time ofoperation, postoperative remission, postoperative complications and satisfaction.
