China has a vast territory with rich chinese herbal medicine resources. However,due to the various kinds of chinese herbal medicine, many forged goods frequentlyappear on the market. The people of health and infringed customers’ legal rights wereaffected by forged goods. Therefore, it is very necessary to search a method ofchinese herbal medicine quality inspection.In this paper, the voltammetric bionic gustatory system is composed of sensorarray, the signal detection system and the signal processing system. Three-electrodesystem which is the working electrode, auxiliary electrode and reference electrode isused as sensor array; CHI660C electrochemical workstation is used as the signaldetection system; MATLAB7.9and pattern recognition methods are used as thesignal processing system. Divaricate saposhnikovia root, fritillaria ussuriensis maxim,schisandra chinensis and asarum were used as detection target; different pulsevoltammetry and square wave voltammetry were used as testing techniques; fourkinds of chinese herbal medicine samples, five kinds of doses of chinese herbalmedicine samples and three kinds of origin of chinese herbal medicine samples wereclassified by using glassy carbon electrode and gold electrode. The database which isbiulded by the voltammetric bionic gustatory system is analyzed by principalcomponent analysis, hierarchical clustering and K-means clustering algorithm basedon particle swarm optimization. The results show that the method of four kinds ofchinese herbal medicine samples which using double electrodes and different pulsevoltammetry is best; the method of the doses of chinese herbal medicine sampleswhich using double electrodes and square wave voltammetry is best; the method ofthe origin of chinese herbal medicine samples which using double electrodes andsquare wave voltammetry is best. Results using K-means clustering algorithm basedon particle swarm optimization were above90%. On the other hand, chinese herbal medicine were quantified by using bionicgustatory system. Astringency, bitterness, sourness, saltiness, umami, richness,aftertaste-B, and aftertaste-A were selected as the analysis signal. Classificationresults of different chinese herbal medicine using PCA is shown that bitterness andumami were perceived.In a word, chinese herbal medicine can be detected and quantified by usingbionic gustatory system. Bionic gustatory system will be well applied in qualitycontrol method of the chinese herbal medicine and research and development of newproducts.
