Objective:To investigate and realize the mental health and related factors of the caregivers of malignant tumor patients, which can provide a reference for taking targeted interventions to improve mental health of the caregivers of malignant tumor patients. It would improve the level of mental heath of caregivers and the caregivers, support level for the malignant tumor patients. Methods:To use correlation descriptive study and questionnaire method, we selected160cases of primary caregivers of malignant tumor patients treated in Huzhou Center Hospital from December2013to February2014as research subjects. Then, we designed questionnaires of Zung’s Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS Scale), Center for Epidemiological Survey,Depression Scale (CES-D Scale) and general survey for160cases of primary caregivers of malignant tumor patients. Results:The anxiety score for160cases of primary caregivers of malignant tumor patients was (34.84±12.18) points, which was higher than that of the domestic conventional model and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001).58.8%caregivers had anxiety symptoms. The depression score was (19.21±9.26) points, which was higher than that of the domestic conventional model and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).54.4%caregivers had depressive symptoms.46.8%caregivers had both anxiety and depressive symptoms. When the malignant tumor patients were male, low-income, in advanced disease, and/or with serious condition and multiple symptoms, their primary caregivers were more vulnerable to be anxiety and depression, as well as when the caregivers were female and at the age of26-55year-old. The patient’s spouse is more vulnerable to have psychological barriers than their children. The increasing uncertainty degree of illness and the imperfection of social supporting system will reinforce the anxiety and depression symptoms of the caregivers. Conclusion:The primary caregivers of malignant tumor patients had serious anxiety and depression symptoms. Their mental health is affected by many factors, such as patient factors, their own factors, the family economic conditions factors and the social supporting systems factors. Medical personnel should actively adopt targeted interventions to improve their mental health, which is important for the patients and their caregivers to improve the quality of both lives.
