Objective: Rational emotive therapy (RET)is a psychologicaltreatments based on the perception of cognitive behavioral framework, foundedby USA psychologist Albert Ellis in twentieth Century50’s. RET has been usedin elderly diabetes, stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury as a clinicalpsychological rehabilitation therapy, but for spinal cord injury (SCI), the reportis less, and early intervention of RET on the SCI patients that studies ofaffecting the cardiopulmonary function and daily life ability are few reported.Almost of all SCI will have mental disorders after injury, such as severedepression, anxiety, depression, irritability, and even, inferiority, clinicalexpression of schizophrenia, significantly affect the rehabilitation effect. Earlyappropriate and targeted psychological rehabilitation on the SCI patients isgood for remission of disease, and will be of great help to improve the effect ofrehabilitation treatment and to improve the prognosis. Therefore, the purpose ofthis study is: To explore the effect of early rational emotive therapy on spinalcord injury patients emotion; to explore the early effect of rational emotivetherapy of heart and lung function in patients with spinal cord injury early on;to explore the rational emotive therapy for patients with spinal cord injury indaily life ability influence, to explore the early application of RET for heart and lung function in patients and daily living ability of spinal cord injuryrehabilitation promotion. Methods: Collect40patients with spinal cordinjury,from2012to2013, in the spine surgery or rehabilitation department ofLeshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine、The second hospital oftraditional Chinese medicine in Leshan City、Mount Emei City Hospital oftraditional Chinese Medicine,(Fall in8cases, crush injury in9cases,23caseswere injured) age range16-60years, were both started after rehabilitationwithin4weeks after injuries, patients still insist on outpatient rehabilitationtreatment With complete information, rehabilitation period of5months.40casesof SCI patients were collected with no intervention of RET into2groups,20cases in each group, self injury within third weeks after beginning in the RETas the RET group (early rational emotive therapy group); not involved RET ascontrol group (routine rehabilitation treatment group). To assess or measure thetwo groups of patients with emotional state, ability of daily life, heart and lungfunction after the system of rehabilitation treatment for5months respectively, compare the data between the two groups, and analyze the effect of earlyintervention on emotion of patients with RET spinal cord, heart and lungfunction, daily life ability damage. To assess the emotional status of patients isused with Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Beck Depression Scale (BDI)assessment. To assess the cardiac function used by measurement of bloodpressure, heart rate. Pulmonary function assessment using indicators are: vitalcapacity (VC), the largest independent minute ventilation (MVV), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1). Barthel index was evaluated byactivity of daily living. Results:1.the RET group and The conventional groupof the emotional state of the scoring results show:(1) the RET group aftertreatment, HAMA score was lower (P <0.01); after treatment, the comparisonbetween two groups, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05).(2)the RET group after the treatment with depression scores decreasedsignificantly (P <0.01); after treatment, the comparison between two groups, thedifference was statistically significant (P <0.01).2the RET group and Theconventional group with the measurement of heart and lung function resultsshow:(1) the RET group after treatment, blood pressure increased significantly(P <0.01); after treatment, the comparison between two groups, the differencewas statistically significant (P <0.01).(2) the RET group after the treatment aresignificantly speed up the heart rate (P <0.01); after treatment, the differencewas not statistically significant (P>0.05).(3) The RET group of pulmonaryfunction parameters after treatment have increased significantly(VC%P <0.05,MVV%P <0.01、FEV1%P <0.01); the RET group and The conventional groupafter treatment of VC%no statistical significance between the two groups (P>0.05); the two group after treatment of MVV%, FEV1%had significantdifference between groups (P <0.05).3the RET group and The conventionalgroup Barthel index score results showed that: the RET group and Theconventional group of Barthel index scores after treatment were significantlyimproved (P <0.01); after treatment, there was significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05).Conclusion:1early RET can improve the state ofdepression and anxiety in patients with SCI, has a positive effect for patientswith mood.2early RET can improve cardiopulmonary function of patients withSCI index, promote the rehabilitation of patients with cardiopulmonary function.3early systemic rehabilitation treatment can improve activities of daily livingin patients with SCI, but in the early rehabilitation intervention of RET hasbetter effect on improving activities of daily living in patients.
