Puppet Manchuria period, when Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was called HanMedicine, was a special period in the modern Chinese history. TCM was the major diagnosticand therapeutic method for the people in Manchukuo State. Medicine Circles, a bimonthlymedical journal, started its publishing in March,1942(the9th year of Kant period),whichbecame a frontier platform for many doctors to exchange knowledge of Western medicine andTCM, and to research and develop TCM. Papers in Medicine Circles provided not onlyimportant evidence to study the academic development of TCM during Puppet Manchuriaperiod, but also precious materials to improve the development history of TCM.The major object of this study was academic achievements of TCM during PuppetManchuria period. Medicine Circles,the official publication of the Manchuria central societyfor TCM, was used as research materials. Medical literatures on Medicine Circles wasclassified and organized in order to analyze the general academic development situation ofTCM during Puppet Manchuria period.As a medical magazine in a particular historical period, Medicine Circles played animportant role in promoting TCM academic development. Medicine Circles presentedacademic achievements of TCM during Puppet Manchuria period in various aspects,including TCM basic theory, TCM classic and clinical application,history and literature,chinese formulae,chinese diagnostics,every section of TCM,western medicine and integratedtraditional chinese and western medicine, Acupuncture and Massage, pharmacology,epidemics and endemic disease, etc. Today, through the study and analysis of MedicineCircles, the academia could understand the academic development of TCM in the northeastoccupied areas under that special historical background. Thus, the social ecology of TCMduring Puppet Manchuria period can be sketched again, which could provide the reference forclinical practice of present TCM.
