Purpose: According to clinical observation, the study will compare the senile constipation patients treated by simple acupuncture treatment with the patients who suffer from the same disease treated by auricular-plaster therapy. The study will decide the differences between the two groups by using statistical methods for processing and summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the treatment of auricular-plaster therapy with acupuncture. The study will evaluate the healthiness and scientificalness of the treatment. The study will also provide a practical experience which is a new kind of clinical senile constipation treatment and an academic reference.Method: According to strict inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, 60 senile constipation patients were selected and divided into 2 groups by random control method. O ne is treatment group containing 30 patients. The other is comparison group which also contains 30 patients. The treatment group used auricular-plaster therapy with acupuncture. Acupuncture of acupoints: Tian shu, Zhi gou, Zu san li, San yin jiao, Guan yuan, and Q i sea. Tian shu and Zhi gou were used reducing method. Zu san li, San yin jiao, Guan yuan and Q i sea were used reinforcing method. The treatme nt was operated once every day. The needles were retained for 30 minutes. Selection: large intestine, tri- jiao, subcortical areas and constipation points. Besides, in coordination with auricular- plaster therapy, the 5×5mm2 adhesive plasters with vaccaria seeds are taped to the selected ear acupoints. After compaction and non-slip condition, pressing and clockwise rotation were used, light with acid bilge feeling for degrees. According to the above methods, the patients should be told to press 3 or 5 times on the locations of auricular-plaster points and it should be done one era after the other one. The adhesive plasters should be replaced once every other day. The above treatment of auricular-plaster therapy with acupuncture treatment is a 10-day course of treatment. The patients should rest a day between the 2 courses of treatment. It totally contains 3 courses of treatment. The comparison group used simple acupuncture treatment. The choice of the points and operational methods are the same as the treatmen t group. Without auricular-plaster therapy, the patients were treated once a day and the course of treatment was a 10-day course. The patients were also rested a day. It totally contained 3 courses of treatment. The changes of the 2 groups including defecation interval, every defecating time, consistency stool, sensory of stool and the first defecating time after the treatments should be observed before and after the treatments.Result: ① After statistic processing, the 2 groups of patients are comparable and there are no obvious differences in age, gender, extent of the disease. ② After 3 courses of treatment, the efficiency of treatment group is 90%. The efficiency of comparison group is 83.3%.③ The integration of the treatment group comparing with that of comparison group shows a significant difference(p<0.01). ④ The first defecating time of 2 groups has a significant difference(p<0.01).Conclusion: ① In order to treat senile constipation, there is no significant difference between auricular-plaster therapy with acupuncture and simple acupuncture treatment.② Auricular-plaster therapy with acupuncture to treat senile constipation has a better effect on the improvement of the primary symptom than simple acupuncture comparison group.③ In order to treat senile constipation, the treatment group using auricular-plaster therapy with acupuncture has a better effect on first defecating time than simple acupuncture comparison group.
