ObjectiveTo observe of efficacy and safety of moxibustion and auricular plaster therapy for dysmenorrhea among adolescents through prospective randomized controlled clinical study method.MethodsThe research was conducted with prospective randomized controlled clinical study method from January 2016 to December 2017.Patients from the Nong's Chinese Medicine Clinic(Olympian Clinic)and students in Ma On Shan Tsung Tsin Secondary School who suffered from dysmenorrhea with more than six months were selected as subjects for research.Based on the diagnostic criteria for dysmenorrhea?inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria,163 patients who met the criteria were included.Patients were randomly divided into three groups and were respectively administered treatments of auricular plaster, moxibustion and moxibustion combined with auricular plaster.Observed indexes included the“Chinese Medicine New Drug Clinical Guidelines”pain scale?visual analogue scale?multidimensional scoring system?short-term menstrual distress questionnaire.Research data were input by two persons to establish a database.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 17.0 statistical software and then efficacy and safety of different therapies were evaluated.ResultsThere were totally 163 participants in the research, and 146 participants completed the treatment and were finally analyzed.1.After 3 months of treatment, the total effective rate was 92%,81% and 96% respectively for the group of auricular plaster therapy, the group of simple moxibution and the group of the combination of moxibustion and auricular plaster therapy.2.There were no significant difference among the baseline traits(including degree of pain, visual analogue scale, total score of MSS and total score of MDQ)of the three groups. Therefore, there was comparability among the three groups(P>0.05).3.There were obvious soothing effects and improved symptoms for all the three groups when comparing all aspects(including degree of pain, visual analogue scale, total score of MSS and total score of MDQ)before treatments with those after treatments for 1?2?3 months(P<0.05).4.Comparing all aspects(including degree of pain, visual analogue scale, total score of MSS and total score of MDQ)before treatments with those after treatments for 1?2?3 months, there were significant difference between the group of Auricular plaster therapy and the group of simple moxibustion treatment(P<0.05),which indicated that auricular plaster therapy was superior to simple moxibustion treatment.5.There was an ascending trend in severity of pain from the third month to three months after treatments. The effect of combination of moxibustion and auricular plaster therapy was better than that of auricular plaster therapy.6.None participants of the three groups in this study had any adverse effects during the treatment, indicating that the auricular plaster therapy or simple moxibustion were much safe.Conclusion1.Auricular plaster therapy, simple moxibution and the combination of moxibustion and auricular plaster therapy can all effectively improve dysmenorrhea among adolescents, and their effective rates was 92%?81% and 96% respectively.2.The therapeutic effect of the auricular plaster therapy was superior to that of the simple moxibution.3.There was no significant difference in the therapeutic effect of auricular plaster therapy and the combination of moxibustion and auricular plaster therapy.4.Comparing the long-term efficacy after treatment, the combination of moxibustion and auricular plaster therapy was better than auricular plaster therapy.
