Effects Of Informational And Emotional Supports On Family Function And Mental Health States Of Women With Infertility

Objective To establish the basis for health education with the mode of informational and emotional supports on women with infertility, the current situation of mental health and family function in women with infertility and their influent factors were analyzed; effects of the intervention about informational and emotional supports on family function and mental health of women with infertility were evaluated. Method:On the basis of “Knowledge-Attitude-Practice” theory, 300 women with infertility were questioned with “the table of general conditions for women with infertility”, “the table of Self-reporting Inventory(SCL-90)”, and “the table of family Cohesion and Adaptability(FACES II-CV)”. A total of 282 availably questionnaires were recovered. The situation of mental health and family function of women with infertility and their influent factors were statistically analyzed. Eighty women with infertility were randomly divided into the intervention group(n=40) and the control group(n=40). On the basis of the conventional health education given by Center of Reproductive Medicine for all patients in every group, the patients in the intervention group were given with informational and emotional supports for 6 months. Before and after the intervention, questionnaire surveys were respectively performed. The difference of mental health state and family function between the two groups was compared. The statistical analysis were performed using SPSS17.0, the methods of statistical analysis included Variance test,t test, chi-square test, and etc. Results(1) Among 282 women with infertility, total scores of the self-rating psychological symptoms scale were 189.54±19.98; and the scores of somatization, obsessive-compulsive symptom, interpersonal sensitivity, depression and anxiety were above 2 scores; the scores of family cohesion were 58.3±6.2, the scores of family adaptability were 45.1±4.3; either the scores of family cohesion or the scores of adaptability were significantly lower than Chinese norm[(63.9±8.0),(50.9±6.2)](p<0.05).(2) After the intervention for six months, total score of the self-rating psychological symptoms scale of the patients with infertility in the intervention group(142.11±14.55) was significantly lower than that before the intervention(189.54±19.98)(p < 0.05), there were significantly statistical difference for the scores of regarding depression, anxiety, terror, hostility, bigotry, somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, obsessive-compulsive symptom, psychoticism and number of positive items between before and after the intervention(p<0.05); meanwhile, total score of the self-rating psychological symptoms scale of the patients with infertility in the intervention group was obviously lower than that in the control group(177.54±17.34)(p<0.05), there were significantly statistical difference for the scores of regarding depression, anxiety, terror, hostility, bigotry, somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, obsessive-compulsive symptom, psychoticism and number of positive items between two groups(p<0.05).(3) After the intervention for six months, the score of family cohesion(61.5±7.6) and score of adaptability of the patients with infertility in the intervention group(48.5±5.5) were significantly higher than that before the intervention[(57.1±5.8),(43.8±4.1)](p<0.05), they were also significantly higher than that in the control group[(58.1±6.8),(44.5±4.9)](p<0.05).(4) After the intervention for six months, the proportion of extreme-type families of patients with infertility in the intervention group(18.4%, 7/38) was obviously lower than that before the intervention(50.0%, 19/38)(p<0.05), it was also obviously lower than that in the control group(42.1%, 16/38)(p<0.05). Conclusions:(1) The mental health status and family function of women with infertility were at a lower level.(2) Informational and emotional supports could effectively improve the mental health status and family function of women with infertility.
