Objective: To observe the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine on tumor chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression and its impact on quality of life of cancer patients guided by "spleen invigoration, kidney warming and marrow reinforcement", and to give full play to the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine while improving clinical symptoms, enhancing quality of life, reducing medical costs and prolonging survival to the greatest extent for malignancy patients. Methods: 60 colorectal cancer patients who were receiving chemotherapy were divided into two groups using a double-blind, randomized, controlled method. Combined Gusui Shengxue Decoction and conventional OFL chemotherapy regimen was applied to 30 patients in the treatment group, and Gusui Shengxue Decoction was given orally 1 decoction daily three days before chemotherapy. 30 patients in the control group were treated by OFL chemotherapy regimen. Medication was continued for two consecutive cycles to observe its efficacy. Results: â‘ Changes in hemogram during the course of treatment: After chemotherapy, various peripheral blood indices of treatment group were significantly superior to the control group. â‘¡ Improvement of TCM symptoms: Total effective rate on clinical syndromes was 86.7% for the treatment group, and 66.7% for the control group, indicating evidently better TCM symptom improvement in the treatment group than the control group.â‘¢ Enhancement of quality of life: Quality of life was improved markedly in the treatment group as compared with the control group. Conclusions: â‘ The use of spleen invigoration, kidney warming and marrow reinforcement therapy can reduce the toxic side effect of myelosuppression after chemotherapy, enhance the quality of life of cancer patients, and improve clinical symptoms. â‘¡ Traditional Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy can significantly enhance the postoperative quality of life of patients, and improve clinical efficacy. Clinical treatment of cancer requires the combination of a variety of means; â‘¢ Application of combined traditional Chinese medicine and chemotherapy during chemotherapy for malignancies can improve clinical efficacy, ease the financial burden of patients, and prolong their survival to the greatest extent. |
