ObjectiveThe objectives of this study were:(a) to describe the current situation of the level ofcare burden of caregivers’self-perception and ability in caregivers of patients with hip replacement when patients left the hospital and the caregiver would care the patients alone; (b) to analyze the relationship between care burden and ability of caregivers. Provide evidence for strengthening the hospital nursing intervention and carrying out effective discharge planning, improve the level of patients’ rehabilitation of hip replacement.MethodsA descriptive, correlative study was used. May,2013 to February,2014, with convenient sampling method, investigated the patients who have had a hip replacement surgery in Huadong Hospital and the caregivers. The current situation of the level of care burden and ability in caregivers of patients with hip replacement before discharge, and the relationship between the two was analyzed. The questionnaires included four. "The patients general information questionnaire ", " The caregivers general information questionnaire"," Caregivers burden questionnaire" and " Caregivers ability questionnaire".90 were investigated. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics using mean, percentage, standard deviation,t-test, chi-square, rank sum test, spearman correlation test.Result1 ① "Caregivers burden questionnaire":Cronbach’s a and CVI were 0.820 and 0.874. ② "Caregivers ability questionnaire":Cronbach’s a and CVI were 0.864 and 0.93.2 Caregivers burden questionnaireThe total score of caregivers’burden was 22.20±7.12, the investigated crowd’sburden was low. The score of burden to patient was16.82±4.60,and the score of burden to caregiver himself or herself. The average score of two dimensions adopted rank sum test, the results were as follows:two dimensions had different (P<0.05),73.3% caregivers’ burden was in the low and 26.7% was in the moderate level. In the different levels of the burden to patients and caregivers, the population distribution had different (P<0.01).3 Caregivers ability questionnaireThe total score of caregivers’ability was 37.63±8.07, the investigated crowd’s ability was low. The ability of care knowledge was 19.6614.85, the ability of care skill was 17.9814.17. The average score of two dimensions adopted t-test, the results were as follows:two dimensions had different (P<0.05),62.2% caregivers’ability was in the low and 37.8% was in the moderate level. In the different levels of the ability of knowledge and skill, the population distribution had different (P<0.01).4 the relevance of caregivers’ burden and abilityThe caregivers’burden and ability adopted Spearman bivariate correlate analysis, the result was as follows:r was-0.143, P was 0.178.Conclusion1 Both questionnaires had good reliability and validity, and could be used to measure the caregivers’ burden and ability of the hip replacement when the patients wereleaving the hospital.2 The average level of burden of hip replacement caregivers was low and moderate, while the burden to patient was higher than burden to caregiver himself or herself.3 The average level of ability of hip replacement caregivers was low and moderate, and the level of care knowledge was higher than care skill.4 The burden and the ability had negative correlation, but the correlation is not significant.
