Objective: Discussion on diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) value in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma and mass-forming focal pancreatitis. Methods:On pancreatic cancer group (n= 15), mass type pancreatitis group (n= 17) and normal control group (n=31) underwent routine MRI scan and DWI (b= 1000s/mm2), the analysis of pathological tissues and normal pancreatic DWI signal characteristics were measured, and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). Quantitative analysis were compared between groups have no significant difference between the ADC values. Results:Pancreatic cancer group, lump type pancreatitis group, control group ADC respectively(1.84+0.05)* 10-3mm2/s,(1.99+0.14)* 10-3mm2/s, (1.38+0.23)* 10-3mm2/s,pancreatic cancer group ADC value is lower than the lump type pancreatitis group (t=5.71,P< 0.05), lower than that of the control group (t=5.34, P< 0.05), mass type pancreatitis group ADC was higher than the control group(t=5.13,P< 0.05).Conclusion:The differential diagnosis of DWI contribute to pancreatic carcinoma and chronic pancreatitis, can be used as an important complementary examination method of conventional MRI.
