Objective:To investigate the current burden and quality of life(QOL) of family member who undertake the main nursing for patients with Type 2diabetes, explore the influencing factors of burden of caregiver and its correlation with their quality of life. Then, it will provide insight for intervention strategies to improve the quality of life of the patients and their main caregivers. Methods:Observation of convenient samples were used as the main study method. The target population were inpatient selected from endocrinology department, that is 108 patients with type 2 diabetes and their caregivers in Xiangdong hospital affiliated human normal university. The investigation lasted for 7 months from October 2013 to May 2014. Four observation methods, Basic Information Questionnaire,The family burden scale of disease(FBS),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) and Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaires( SF-36) were used to assess caregiver burden and QOL of primary caregivers of patients with type 2diabetes. Statistic methods included descriptive analysis, t-test, analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis H analysis, multiple linear step wise regression analysis and Pearson correlation analysis, Spearman correlation analysis were performed by the SPSS20.0.Results:1. 216 questionnaires were distributed, among which 200 were retrieved and valid, 100 finished by patients and 100 finished by their caregivers. The recovery rate was 92.6%.2.The total score of burden of main caregivers was 15.11±10.49. 92% of the caregivers suffered from various levels of care burden, specifically42% with moderate burden and 42% with heavy burden.3.The total score of social support was(39.54±8.24),the objective support score was(10.50±2.74),the subjective support score was(23.63±5.23),and the social support utilization degree score was(5.41±2.02).4.Spearman correlation analysis showed that there were negatively correlation between social support and the caregivers’ burden(r=-0.329,p<0.01).5. It was showed by multiple linear stepwise regression analysis that the patients’ self-care ability, medical expenses, and the primary caregivers’ age, professional, whether suffered chronic diseases and subjective support were included in the regression equation(F=12.137,P=0.000) in which the dependent variable was caregivers’ burden. The 6 factors could explain 48% of the variation for the caregivers’ burden.6. We could get the conclusion through Spearman correlation analysis that the burden and quality of life of main caregivers of patients with type2 diabetes was negatively related(r=-0.429,p<0.01).Conclusion:1.The better social support of primary caregivers of type two diabetes mellitus, the lower of score of burden.2.The burden of primary caregivers of patients with DM was influenced by the patient’s self-care situation, monthly expenses, and caregiver’s age, occupation, whether suffering from chronic diseases and social support.and the patient’s self-care situation are the main influencing factors.3.The primary caregivers’ caregiver burden and QOL were negatively correlated. The lower caregiver burden was,the high quality of life was.
