Background:The growth of medical expense is a common issue for various countries in the world, including China. Excessive growth of medical expense not only aggravates patients’ financial burden, but also becomes a huge burden of national finance. The reasons for the growth include reasonable parts and unreasonable parts. So it is very important to find out the unreasonable parts of excessive medical cost growth and take measures to control medical expenses in a reasonable range of growth.Objective:Through analyzing data of inpatients’ medical expense of Gansu province Wushan county in 2013, the study tries to know the distribution of hospital admissions、the composition of hospitalization expenses and its influencing factors and to provide scientific basis for improving cost and control measures of NCMS.Methods:From the new management system of NCMS’hospitals, the inpatients’ personal information and medical expense information are collected. And the study objects are all the cases of respiratory system diseases of Wushan county in 2013. The collected data is put into Excel 2007 to form a database. SPSS19.0 is used to analyze medical cost, including descriptive analysis for cases distribution and the composition of hospitalization expenses, single-factor analysis and multiple-factor analysis for influencing factors of hospitalization expense and fees that constitute more than 5% of it.Results and Suggestions:1. The percentage of drug fee in hospitalization fee of inpatients with respiratory system diseases in Wushan County is still high. It is suggested that government should make sure that public hospitals are financed, and put up the price of medical service. Thus separation of medical service and drugs can be realized.2. Children are the main patients of the respiratory system disease, and the medical cost is growing as the age grows. Children should be well educated about their health, and their legal guardian should be educated to improve their own child’s health.3. The length of stay is the most important influencing factor of medical cost, and measures should be taken to reduce unnecessary hospital stay.4. There are differences between hospitals at the same level concerning about hospitalization fee. It is of great importance to solve medical fee problems of hospitals such as traditional Chinese medicine hospital.
