Objective To investigate the detection rate of abnormal uterine bleeding of female outpatients in four hospitals of Wuwei city, Gansu Province and explore the diagnostic hysteroscopy validity of abnormal uterine bleeding in order to providing a foundation for drawing up the treatment and preventive measures. Methods To collect the number of female outpatients and diagnosed patients of abnormal uterine bleeding in four hospitals (Liangzhou, Gulang, Minqing and Tianzhu county) in Wuwei city, Gansu province to analyze the prevalence of abnormal uterine bleeding in 2007-2012, and select 156 patients of abnormal uterine bleeding in Liangzhou hospital for hysteroscopy, biopsy and B-ultrasound examination. Results The detection rate of abnormal uterine bleeding was 4.4%o and showed an increasing trend in female outpatients of four hospitals in Wuwei city, Gansu province in 2007-2012. The patients of abnormal uterine bleeding was mainly distributed in Liangzhou district,30-40 years old women, the junior high school and primary school education and the farmer. The hysteroscopy examination showed that the endometrial polyps (67 cases), submucosal uterine fibroids (17 patients), embryo remains (3 cases), endometrial hyperplasia (34 cases), endometrial cancer (4 cases), intrauterine ectopic (4 cases) and normal (27 cases) respectively accounted for 42.95%,10.90%,1.92%,21.79%,2.56%,2.56% and 23.72% in 156 cases of abnormal uterine bleeding. The B-ultrasound examination found 52 cases of endometrial polyps (33.33%),14 cases of submucosal fibroids (8.97%),15 cases of endometrial hyperplasia (9.62%),3 cases of endometrial cancer (1.92%),3 cases of embryo remains (1.92%),5 cases of intrauterine ectopic (3.21%) and normal 64 cases (41.03%) in 156 patients of abnormal uterine bleeding. The detection rate of hysteroscopy was 82.69%(129/156), but the detection rate of B-ultrasound was only 58.97%(92/156) in 156 patients of abnormal uterine bleeding, the difference between the detection rates was statistically significant (P<0.01). In 125 patients of abnormal uterine bleeding (detection rate of 100%) diagnosed as tissue biopsy, the detection rate of hysteroscopy was 97.60%(122/125), the difference between the detection rates was not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusions The detection rate of abnormal uterine bleeding was 4.4%o in female outpatients of four hospitals in Wuwei city, Gansu province in 2007-2012. The findings of hysteroscopy and pathological examination in the diagnosis of abnormal uterine bleeding is highly consistent, and the technique of hysteroscopy examination diagnosed the abnormal uterine bleeding is significantly better than that of B-ultrasound.
