Objective:To observe the change of food and water intake and synaptic ultrstructure of cerebral infarction rats after the treatment of electroacupuncture(EA) or manual acupuncture. To compare the influence of the two treatment on vegetative nerve function and synaptic plasticity of cerebral infarction rats. To explore the protection mechanism of the two methods on functional recovery after neural injury.Method:Produce rat cerebral ischemia models accordding to modified advanced Zea - Longa method. They were divided randomly into control group, model group, manual acupuncture and electroacupuncture group. Each group was further divided into three subgroups depending on treatment time (n=8).Evaluate the neurologic deficits with the Bederson method and observe the change of food and water intake and weight of rats after treatment for certain time.At the same time, the ultrastructural of synaptics were observed by transmission electron microscope.Result:(1)Compared to the contral group, the neurologic impairment deficit scores in model group showed significantly higher in every time point (P<0.05), while the food and water intake decreased-sjgnificantly (P<0.05). The neurological impairment scores of EA group and manual acupuncture were significantly lower than the model group (P<0.05) in the same time point, while the food intake and water intake had no significant difference except at 14d There was no significant difference on food and water intake between the EA group and the manual group at 3d and 7d(P>0.05),while food and water intake of the EA group was much more than that of the manual group at 14d.(2) Expression of numerical density, surface density and post-synaptic destiny (PSD) in the ischemic cortex obviously decreased after MCAO(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the expression of them increased both in the EA group and manual group. And the increased expression of numerical density, surface density and PSD of the EA group was more significant than that of the manual acupuncture group at 7d and 14d.The width of synaptic space had no difference in all the groups except that that of the EA group was higher than that of the model group and the manual group at 7d.Conclusion:(1) Food and water intake by the MCAO rats decrese significantly. Both the EA group and manual acupuncture group could promote the neurological function recovery of the cerebral ischemic rats and improve their physiological activity such as feeding and drinking. There was no obvious difference on food and water intake between the two groups(2)Both the manual acupuncture and EA group could improve the synaptic plasticity by means of promoting the change of synaptic plasticity structure. The EA group could have better effect on synaptic plastic than the manual acupuncture in the early treatment But with prolongation of treatment time, the effect has no difference between the two groups.
