Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effect of Modified Xiaoxianxiong Decoction(MXD) on phlegm heat type hypertension patients and possible mechanism through observing the level of serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) in phlegm heat type hypertension patients before and after taking MXD.Methods:90 eligible patients were randomly divided into the treatment group and control group, with 45 cases in each group. All patients were treated according to the "Hypertension prevention and control guidelines in China in 2010 revised edition" and hypertension standardized treatment, and they were up to the standard. The patients in the treatment group took MXD in addition to receiving antihypertensive therapy. The treatment was lasted for 4 weeks. The levels of serum Hs-CRP of the patients in the two groups were detected before and after treatment. The individual main TCM symptom score and blood pressure monitoring were observed. The statistical analysis was performed. The clinical practice was combined to evaluate and explore.Results:1. Comparison of serum Hs-CRP levels in patients of two groups before treatment, P>0.05. There was no significant difference. They were comparable. The serum Hs-CRP levels in patients of two groups after treatment were significantly decreased than that before treatment (P<0.01); The serum Hs-CRP level in treatment group was decreased than that of control group (P<0.01). The difference was statistically significant.2. Comparison of total symptom score in the treatment group and control group before and after treatment, P<0.01; Comparison of total symptom score between two groups after treatment, P<0.01; Comparison of total symptom score between groups, P<0.01, the difference had statistical significance.3. After treatment, except for headache, palpitation and eating little (P>0.05), the other TCM symptoms in the treatment group were obviously improved than those before treatment (P<0.01). The total efficiency of TCM syndrome efficacy was 91.1%; The dizziness and chest stuffiness in the control group were relieved (P<0.01). The other TCM symptoms were not improved obviously (P>0.05). The total efficiency was 66.7%. The treatment group was better than control group in improving the therapeutic efficacy of TCM syndromes (P<0.01).4. The correlation analysis showed that serum Hs-CRP concentration was correlated with TCM symptom score in the treatment group before and after treatment. r1=0.719, P1<0.001; r2=0.671, P2<0.001.Conclusion:1. The treatment group was significantly better than control group in the serum Hs-CRP concentration, the total effective rate of TCM syndrome and improving TCM symptoms score.2. The correlation analysis showed that serum Hs-CRP concentration was positively related to TCM symptom score. It could be used as one of indexes of microcosmic syndrome differentiation in phlegm heat type hypertension patients.3. MXD integrated removing heat-phlegm, loosen the chest regulating qi and tonifying spleen overcome dampness, reduced the inflammatory reaction etc. multiple targets integration through the intervening inflammatory factors, thus to play a unique therapeutic effect in traditional Chinese medicine.
