Part 1 Investigation on women’s knowledge, attitudes and self-screening situation about cervical smear cytology. Objective To investigate women’s knowledge, attitudes and self-screening situation about cervical smear cytology. Methods Selected 157 women randomly, and then conducted a questionnaire survey of cervical smear cytology knowledge, attitudes and self-screening behavior. Data were collected and analyzed by the statistical software. Results Only 5.1% women fully understood the knowledge of cervical smear cytology, up to 94.9% women were lack of the knowledge of cervical cytology smears; 3.2% women’s attitude on cervical cytology smears was positive and 97.8% women’s attitude towards cervical smear cytology is negative; only 4.5% women have taken a self-screening behavior for cervical smear cytology among 157 study subjects. Conclusion Women’s awareness of cervical cytology smear screening for cervical cancer is low, and the attitude on cervical cancer screening behavior is negative, lack of initiative behavior for cervical cancer screening, there is an urgent need to take appropriate measures to improve women’s cervical cancer screening behavior. Part 2 Revision of the Chinese version of health belief scale used in screening for cervical cancer with Pap Smear test. Objective To revision the Chinese version of health belief scale for cervical cancer and Pap Smear test. Methods After getting Scale author, Gulten Guvenc’s consent, we revise the English version of health beliefs scale to Chinese version with the principles of cross-cultural adaptation process. After the process of translation, back-translation, cross-cultural adaptation and preliminary test, the Chinese version of the health belief scale finally formed. Results Chinese version of the health belief scale contains a total of 32 items in five dimensions: health behaviors(9 items), perceived barriers(9 items), perceived severity(7 items), perceived benefits(4 items) and perceived susceptibility(3 items). Part 3 Study on reliability and validity of health belief model scale used in screening for cervical cancer with cervical cytology smear. Objective Examine the reliability and validity of health belief model scale when used in screening for cervical cancer with cervical cytology smear. Methods Conduct a questionnaire survey in 242 women randomly. Data was collected for project analysis, reliability analysis and validity analysis with the SPSS17.0 statistical software, to test the reliability and validity of Chinese version of health belief scale when used in screening for cervical cancer with the cervical cytology smear. Results The Cronbach’s α of the Chinese version of health beliefs scale was 0.923(P <0.01), retest Cronbach’s α was 0.851(P<0.01), with higher reliability. Content validity assessment results show that the content validity of the Chinese version of health belief scale was 0.87, and the content validity index of each item is between 0.86~1, greater than 0.80; Each item’s entry decision is between 4.124 ~ 9.673, greater than 3.0, with statistical significance(P<0.01), correlation coefficient of each item with the total scale is between 0.41~0.74 and greater than 0.4, with statistical significance(P <0.01); Exploratory factor analysis showed that, five common factors were extracted which contribute to the cumulative rate of 56.068%, the value of each item load in their own factor is between 0.456~0.890. Conclusion The Chinese version health belief scale has good reliability and validity, which can be used to test the health beliefs of female’s cervical cytology smear screening for cervical cancer.
