ObjectiveThis research tries to treat essential hypertension (EH) patients with abdominal massage therapy in different groups by the theory of external therapy of TCM. Also, to observe the difference of blood pressure and pulse pressure, as well as quality of life(QOL), by making comparisons within and between groups, which aim is to estimate the abdominal massage therapeutic efficacy.MethodsThe study is prospective, randomized and controlled. By using ramdom number table,60 EH patients were divided into the treated group and the control group, respectively with 31 patients and 29. The control group was treated with anti-hypertension drugs, while the treated group was given anti-hypertension drugs and abdominal massage therapy, both of which lasted for 1 month. The results of blood pressure (BP), pulse pressure (PP) and other data in pre and post treatment in this two groups were compared study and finally input and analyzed by the SPSS 19.0 software.ResultsThe total efficiency of treated group and control group are respectively 84.61% and 65.52%. The two groups showed significant difference in aspect of the hypotensive effect, BP and PP. Also, there is significant difference in pre and post treatment in both groups in terms of systolic blood pressure. The difference value of systolic blood pressure (SBP) in pre and after treatment in two groups was significant different (P<0.01).The difference value of diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and PP in pre and after treatment in two groups were also different (P<0.05). No difference showed in the two groups in terms of TCM symtoms and QOL before treatment. But after treatment, there existed a significant decrease. The difference value of TCM symptoms are also significantly changed in pre and after treatment between the two groups (P<0.01)ConelusionIn respect of improving BP, TCM symptoms and QOL in patients, treated grou is better than control group. According to this paper, abdominal massage therapeutic should be a good adjuvant treatment which is safe, efficiently ar worth popularizing to the EH patients.
