Objective:The aims of this study is to assess the effect of Baduanjin exercise objectively and scientifically and to popularize it. Besides, provide evidences of the preventive effect of Baduanjin among the community elder population with high risk factor of stroke in the field of rehabilitation.Methods:This study adopted strict single blind, randomized controlled design to evaluate the effect of Baduanjin. The participants of this studies is from the community elder population with high risk factor of stroke. A total of 170 participants were randomly allocated into Baduanjin group and general physical activity group. Observing the changes of the outcomes that consist of vertebral artery and basilar artery, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, blood lipid index, inflammation factors and physical parameters before the intervention, after the intervention and after the follow-up, to evaluate the effect of 12 weeks Baduanjin exercise among the community elder population with high risk factor of stroke systematically.Results:1.Baduanjin group, compared with general physical activity group, reduced the PI of vertebral artery and basilar artery (P< 0.05).2.Compared with general physical activity group, the blood lipid index of Baduanjin group, consists of serum triglyceride (TG), serum total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL), has no obvious change (P> 0.05). However, TG and TC have a tendency to reduce within the Baduanjin group,3.The fasting plasma glucose of Baduanjin group has no obvious change (P> 0.05), but has a tendency to reduce within the Baduanjin group.4.Baduanjin group, compared with general physical activity group, reduced systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and heart rate (P< 0.05).5.Compared with general physical activity group, the waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio of Baduanjin group has significant change (P<0.05), but there was no changes in the weight, height and body mass index (BMI).6.Compared with general physical activity group, the serum homocysteine of Baduanjin group has no obvious change (P> 0.05).Conclusions:1.Baduanjin exercise not only effectively reduces vascular resistance and increases cerebral vascular elasticity of vertebral artery and basilar artery but also decrease systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and heart rate among the elder population with high risk factor of stroke.2.Baduanjin exercise reduces waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio among the elder population with high risk factor of stroke. But it had no effect on body weight, height and body mass index (BMI).3.Baduanjin exercise has no effect on serum triglyceride (TG), serum total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), fasting glucose, and serum homocysteine among the elder population with high risk factor of stroke.
