ObjectiveTo know the status on knowledge, attitude, positive rate of depression and possible risk factors in Zhengzhou city. To provide the reference and scientific basis for investigation of other parts of the middle school teachers’ depression prevalence and discussion of risk factors. MethodsOctober 2013 to October 2014, carried out the questionnaire among all of the teachers in eight junior high school of Zhengzhou city through adopting the method of chester sampling. 1404 complete effective questionnaires were recycled,and the effective response rate was 98.66%. Four parts were included in the questionnaire: General demographic characteristics, living habit and disease history; Epidemic survey center depression scale; Life event scale. Consolidated the questionnaires collected, applying SPSS16.0 software to statistics calculation and analyzation. Used the c2 test to compare of depression prevalence of different characteristics of teachers, used Logistic regression analysis to explore possible risk factors of depression of teachers in middle schools. Results(1)The survey results of CES-D was comprehensive, screened out of 212 patients who had depressive symptoms in both the two surveys, calculating the depression positive rate of teachers in junior high schools was 15.10%(212/1404).(2)The depression positive rate of teachers with different sex, age, cultural degree, marital status, living conditions, the number of close friends were different, meanwhile, the depression positive rate of teachers who had physical exercise, whether suffered from physical discomfort or disease nearly a week, suffered from chronic diseases or not, for the doctor diagnosed mental illness or not, whether family had mental illness history, whether there was a family violence, felt working pressure or negative life events were different.(3)By means of Logistic regression analysis, the results displayed that depression was associated with age(OR=1.53,95%CI:1.21~1.94), marital status(OR=3.30,95%CI:1.69~6.47), diagnosed mental illness by doctor(OR=7.52, 95%CI: 2.91~19.49), existed prior history of mental illness in the lineal and three generations of collateral consanguinity(OR=3.43, 95%CI: 1.92~6.13), existed family violence(OR=1.67, 95%CI: 1.14~2.45), feel big work pressure(OR=3.22, 95%CI: 1.24~8.40) and negative life events. ConclusionsThe depression positive rate of teachers from eight junior high schools in Zhengzhou city was 13.60%. Old age, bad marriages, diagnosed mental illness by the doctor, existed prior history of mental illness in the lineal and three generations of collateral consanguinity, existed family violence, feel big work pressure and negative life events were the possible risk factors.
