Objective:Definition of MS was putted forward first in1988, and has been identified as a strong prediction index of cardiovascular disease events and diabetes. In recent years, researches suggest that MS is a low-grade inflammation of chronic disease syndrome, aim at the older population----a group With the high-risk of cardiovascular disease, this study discuss the correlation between white blood cell count and elderly metabolic syndrome and its risk factors. We hope our study can be useful to community doctor team, who can take key health management on high WBC crowd with community risk factors, delay the attack cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and facilitate the overall rehabilitation. Methods:This study include1261person over age65living in the Tianlin Community Health Service Center, who took physical check-up in2012. We obtain general information Through the residents’health records and medical examination, including age, sex, medical history, medication history, family history etc. We measured their height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure levels, test their white blood cell count of peripheral blood, blood lipid, fasting glucose, liver function, serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen etc. And according to the white blood cell count of peripheral blood, we group they by inter-quartile method. Results:Compared with people without MS(P<0.05), the white blood cell count of people with MS was obviously higher. Males and females who got cardiovascular disease events (include diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, coronary heart disease) family history and smoke in the MS groups, were more than non-MS groups. And they also had higher index of BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, WBC count, systolic blood pressure (SBP), fasting blood-glucose (FBG), Triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol than the non-MS groups(P<0.05)----that is Statistically significant. In the analysis of the correlation between WBC inter-quartile counting method and composition of MS, in the four groups, men’s BMI, Waist circumference,TG, cholesterol and blood uric acid would increased with the increase of WBC. In the female check-up crowd, index of BMI, Waist circumference, TG and blood uric acid were statistical differences (P<0.05). Researched by logistic Regression analysis, took MS as the dependent variable, took Age, gender, BMI, family history, WBC inter-quartile count level and smoking as independent variables, adjusted with Age, sex, BMI, waist circumference, LDL-C, compared with the lowest inter-quartile group, we found the OR value of MS risk of people at the third and fourth quartile were1.48,2.00. risk of getting MS would increased with the increase of WBCC. Adopted Spearman correlation analysis, the result showed that waist circumference, BMI, TG and uric acid positive correlated to the WBCC significantly(P<0.05), and had no Significant correlation to SBP、DBP、height and FBG. After correcting age and components of MS, partial correlation analysis shoued that WBC still had correlation to waist circumference, BMI, TC, TG and uric acid (P<0.05); correlation to TC was gone. In compare with the incidence of components of MS, male and female who have the high TG and obesity have the higher incidence rate with the four different quartiles of WBC increased, while the male was damaged in the fourth quartile on Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) has higher incidence rate than the other3groups, female who have hypertension or diabetes patients have higher incidence with the elevated WBC count Conclusion:As markers of Inflammatory,WBC is connected with elderly MS and its subfractions closely, which can become a factory of MS forecase. The WBC can be used as a simple observation of the indicators for the non-MS or MS crowd person who have elevated WBC and pay more attention to it, including health behavior education, and through lower the WBC count also can be used as an indicator of outcome.
