Objective:To summarize the demographics and the outcomes of acute pancreatitis in pregnancy (APP).Methods:52cases of APP in Xiangya Hospital during the recent20years (1994-2013) were retrospectively reviewed.Results:52APP included3in the first trimester of pregnancy (5.8%),12in the second trimester (23.0%) and37in the third trimester (71.2%). Among them were26cases of mild pancreatitis(50.0%),13cases of moderate severe pancreatitis (25.0%) and13cases of severe pancreatitis (25.0%). Etiology:28cases of hyperlipidemic pancreatitis (53.8%),14cases of biliary pancreatitis (27.0%) and10cases of idiopathic pancreatitis (19.2%). The mortality of the pregnant women was zero, but the mortality of the fetus reached as high as19.2%(10/52), which included2dead in the uterus,4dead post-partum and4artificial abortion due to side effects of the medication.Conclusions:The prevalence of APP was growing and most of APP occurred in the late pregnancy. Hyperlipidemia and biliary disease were the main causes of APP and the former one ranked the top reason. APP was still associated with high fetal mortality.
