Objective:To systematically compare the related complications, operating time, hospital stay, full weight-bearing time and healing time of distal tibial fractures in adults treated by intramedullary nail and plate. To provide theoretical basis for surgery of adult distal tibial fracture. Methods:We searched for articles comparing intramedullary nail and plate for distal tibial fractures in adults in Cochrane library, PubMed, super star MedaLink, High Wire, CNKI,Wanfang database, et al.All randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials were included, the retrieve date from January2000to May2013.The RevMan5.1provided by the Cochrane used for the extraction of available data after evaluate the quality of documents that are included in the study. Results:A total of571patients were included(275in the intramedullary nailing group and296in the plate group).Compared with the plate treatment, intramedullary nail significantly reduced the risk of total complications(RR=0.62,95%CI:0.42-0.93, P<0.05).Shorten the hospital stay(P<0.05),full weight-bearing time(P<0.05),healing time(P<0.05).Conclusion:Intramedullary nailing treatment of distal tibia fractures in adults can decrease the occurrence of postoperative complications, Shorten the hospital stay and healing time of patients, make the patients with functional exercise early weight-bearing.
