Objective1. The aim of this study was to develop a reliable3D soft tissue analysisusing reproducible craniofacial soft tissue landmarks.2. The aim of this study was to provide the basic mean values andproportion indices in the craniofacial of3D soft tissues of Liaoning normal adults. The results provided basic data for clinical medicine and forensic anthropology.MethodsGE superconducting1.5T MRI scanner was used for head and neckjoint scanning of100(female50, male50) adults whose native placein Liaoning province. Criteria for case selection include: health, normaldevelopment, no facial deformities and scars, upper and lower teeth arranged inneat rows, tooth and dental arch form normal, craniofacial relationscoordination, molar for angle class I relationship and to exclude facial plasticsurgery, orthodontic correction, operation history and MRI taboo, older than18.VG Stduio2.2MAX software was used3D facial reconstruction for the data inDICOM format, by adjusting the transparency and gray value and theappropriate use of the filter and the measurement of surface, and then we willobtain the clear three-dimensional images, with three-dimensional section so asto determine the53landmarks of craniofacial soft tissue,10anglesmeasurements, have decided the facial morphology. The coordinate oflandmarks through WinEDMA1.0.1software, we measured31items in order toform51indices. The measurement results were statistically analyzed bySPSS17.0software in t test between the male and female. Results1. By MRI reconstruction, the3D measurement of craniofacial soft tissue,including54landmarks and92measurement items. We got the means anddeviation of the31measurement items, there are21items had significantdifference in sex(P<0.05); Angle measuring a total of10items, there are2itemshad significant difference(P<0.05); Craniofacial proportion index,51items, with14items had significant difference(P<0.05).2. The three-dimensional measurement of craniofacial soft tissue, severalsigns point to inaccurate mainly involved in the landmarks of mandibular angle, cheekbone, and ear. The system has a high degree of accuracy to satisfies theanthropometric requirements.Conclusions1. The system of three-dimensional reconstruction and measurementbased on MRI can be used as a reliable three-dimensional soft tissueanalysis method.2. Three-dimensional measurement of adults whose native place inLiaoning province of normal craniofacial morphology showed: The basicmeasurements were difference between sexes; Facial proportions and anglemeasurements had not much difference. We need to further investigate on3Dinformation of craniofacial soft tissue to do research in the future, in order to thethree–dimensional soft tissue diagnosis combine with future treatment optionsand the final evaluation.
