Objective:To discuss the clinical features,inducements and interventions of a case of mass hysteria.To raise medical staff’s awareness on the disease.Methods:Investigating the episode of mass hysteria in a factory of Guangdong province.The general information of all patients with mass hysteria was assessed with self-editing investigate scale.Clinical symptoms was assessed and classified.Medical therapy and psychological treatment was taken.All patients were assessed with HAMA before treatment,and at the end of one,two,four weeks for treatment.Results:The average age of all patients is (20.26+2.04). There are thirty-eight female patients(70.4%) and sixteen male patients(29.6%). All patients saw the incident of fighting.Fifty patients showed that the most anxious thing was self-safety. The clinical features is found as follows:convulsions or convulsive seizure in forty-seven cases(87.0%), outburst of emotion in thirty-two cases(59.3%),episodic syncope in twenty-nine cases (53.7%),disscoiative disorders fixed with conversion disorders in thirty-four cases(62.96%). To compare scores of HAMA before treatment with the treatment of one week,two weeks and four weeks scores of HAMA,there are statistical significance(P<0.05).After the treatment of one week, two weeks, patients whose symptoms are disapeared and patients whose symptoms are still existing, the difference of HAMA scores is statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusions:The inducements of such an episode of mass hysteria are witness of fighting and the overwhelming anxiety of self-security. Disscoiative disorders fixed with conversion disorders is the major clinical feature. In order to control the episode of mass hysteria,the private task is to relieve people’s anxiety.
