Objective:To understand recent or previous infection of EBV in the pediatric clinic by the serum epidemiological survey of EBV (Epstein-Barr virus, EBV) infection in the hospitalized children in a provincial hospital, Urumqi area. Laboratory test results and retrospective clinical analysis of EBV active infection could be as a reference of diagnosis and treatment of EBV infection. Methods:1364venous blood samples were collected from May2011to May2012, in pediatrics and neonatal department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People’s Hospital.By ELISA(Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent assay), we detected anti-CA-IgM (Capsid antigen,CA),anti-CA-IgG and anti-CA-IgG affinity. And we analyzed medical records of all the patients. The datas were analyzed by χ2test. Results:In1364cases of hospitalized children with infection(under14years old),1134cases were high affinity of anti-CA-IgG that previous EBV infection rate was83.1%(1134/1364);177cases of anti-CA-IgM were positive, there were44cases with negative anti-CA-IgM and low affinity of anti-CA-IgG that recent active infection rate was16.2(221/1364); positive anti-CA-IgM and negative anti-CA-IgG were19cases and low affinity of anti-CA-IgG were71cases that the primary EBV infection rate was6.6%(90/1364); negative anti-CA-IgM and low affinity of anti-CA-IgG were44cases, accounting for3.2%(44/1364). The related diseases of EBV recent active infection included Bronchopneumonia42.1%(93/221), Pneumonia25.2%(56/221), Anemia17.2%(38/221), Infant hepatitis syndrome or jaundice14.5%(32/221), Upper Respiratory tract infection10.4%(23/221), Purulent tonsillitis3.6%(8/221), Infectious mononucleosis syndrome3.2%(7/221), Viral encephalitis3.2%(7/221), Viral myocarditis2.7%(6/221), Herpes angina1.4%(3/221), Others6.3%(14/221). Conclusion:In the hospitalized children with infection, the previous infection rate of EBV was83.1%, recent active infection rate was16.2%, the positive rate of anti-CA-IgM in early childhood was significantly higher than that of other age groups. In the related diseases of EBV infection, respiratory infections, anemia, hepatitis syndrome were more common. Serum anti-CA-IgM and anti-CA-IgG affinity antibody test of EBV is necessary to advanced diagnostic techniques for clinical active EBV infection.
