Objectives:To analyze the origin, travel, variations and collateralcirculation of the celiac Axis on Anatomy and the Imaging, so as to provideanatomical basic for distal pancreatectomy with resection of the celiacaxis(Appleby operation).Methods:72corpses were selected randomly, branches of celiac trunkand the pancreatoduodenal arcades were completely exposed. Then88cases with diseases of liver or pancreas underwent computed tomographyangiography (CTA), main branches of celiac Axis and the pancreaticduodenal arterial arcades also were identified in CTA photographs. Results:The pancreatoduodenal arcades can be found in all of corpsesand CTA photographs. The rates of mutation of hepatic artery were25%(18/72) in72copses and26.14%(23/88) in the group of CTA examination. Conclusion:The pancreatoduodenal arcades were the proper structureof human, the blood supply of liver can compensate by superior mesentericartery through the pancreatoduodenal arcades after the resection of celiacAxis with Appleby operation. That provides anatomical basic for Applebyoperation. But in type II,type IV,type V and type VI of our study, because of resection of left gastric artery, common hepatic artery or celiac axiswhich forms the replaced lift hepatic artery, blood supply of the left livermay be rendered.
