Operation For Pancreatic Body And Tail Carcinoma

Objective: To explore the effect of Extended pancreatectomy combined with resection of celiac axis for pancreatic body and tail carcinoma and the means that improve the rate of resection and the effect.Methods: There are 162 patients with carcinomas of the pancreatic body and tail in our hospital from October 2000 to August 2006 who received operations.Extended pancreatectomy combined with resection of celiac axis were performed in 24 patients. In these patients,there are cancerous invation of the major vessels around pancreas such as the common hepatic,celiac arteries. We retrospectively analyzed symptoms,operation, pathologic diagnosis and survival rate of these patients.Results: Extended pancreatectomy combined with resection of celiac axis is safe .The operation can obviously raise the rate of resection and lead to complete clearence of disease and long term survival. The operation can improve the quality of life too.Conclusion: Extended pancreatectomy combined with resection of celiac axis can be safely performed by proficient doctor.The operation is reasonable.
