Abstract/Summary:
Celiac Disease is considered a risk factor for osteoporosis. The relationship between celiac disease and bone disease is not fully understood. Several studies have researched the nutritional and physical benefits of lifestyle modification on bone health. Those with celiac disease are at higher risk for nutritional deficiencies than the general population and therefore must exercise more caution to ensure nutritional intake is adequate. Compliance to a strict nutrient dense gluten-free diet along with regular physical activity is not often advocated together for this population. The purpose of this project was to create an online informational brochure to increase awareness and promote the positive impact that lifestyle modification can have on bone health in those who choose to change.
