Objective:To investigate the age, educational background, job title, practice structure distributed situation of all the medical personels and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) personels in the medical institutions which could supply TCM service in Hunan province. At the same time, to understand the requirement of the TCM personels in the medical institutions next five years.In order to provide the basis data for improving TCM careers in Hunan.Methods:Creat database by "The investigation of the basic present situation on TCM" programe. Analyse the absolute number and relative index on the all medical personels and TCM personels in Hunan. Relative index include the constituent ratio of each index in its relevant institutions at various levels or in the population of each index, the propotion on the index associated with the TCM in the corresponding overall.Results:1. There were36983medical institutions which could supply TCM service in Hunan province. They were150TCM hospitals,502general hospitals,183out-patient TCM departments,289community health service centers,1874township hospitals,3541community health service stations and30444village clinics.2. There were229481working staff,197773medicine personels, and47743TCM personels. The TCM personels was only accouted for24.14%of all the medicine personels, and they were major in the TCM hospitals, village clinics and township hospitals.3. All the medicine personels aged from26to55years, espicially from26to45years. The age structure of the TCM personels was similar to the total. The propotion of the TCM personels who were older than60years was6.06%in the general TCM population, and they were major in the village clinics and township hospitals.4. The major educational background of all the medicine personels was junior college degree and secondary education, respectively accouted for31.50%and29.27%of the general population. The propotion of the bachelor was14.54%, the master was1.47%. The persons who had second degree were major in the township hospital. The persons who had assiociated college degree were major in the general hospitals and township hospitals. The main educational backgroud of the TCM personels was assiociated secondary education and college degree, the respectively propotion of the all personels was28.73%and20.17%, the master degree and above was only1.41%. The persons of the TCM who had assiociated college degree were major in the TCM hospitals and township hospitals. The persons of the TCM who had secondary degree were major in village clinics and the township hospitals.5. The propotion of the TCM personels with job title in the relevant medicine situation was higher than60.00%. There were14258primary job title personels which was the main job title of all the TCM personels, the propotion was43.16%and mainly distributed in the township hospitals, TCM hospitals and general hospitals. There were2680senior professional title TCM personels mainly in the general hospitals.6. The number of the TCM specialization licensed physicians in all medical institutions was17361, which accounted for31.69%, was mainly Chinese medicine licensed physicians integrated traditional Chinese. The number of the TCM Licensed assistant physicians was6106which accounted for25.07%, was mainly Chinese medicine licensed assistant physicians. The number of TCM nursing was2728, which accounted for5.04%in all registered nurses, the number of nurses who systemly study basic theoretical knowledge and skill training of Chinese medicine was5890, which accounted for10.87%in all registered nurses. The number of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine village doctors was56.8%. The number of no-qualification doctor was6268in the township level and under medical institutions, contained842traditional Chinese doctors and1408western medicine doctors to provide services.7. The requirement amount to the TCM personel was22467in the future five year. The major educational background requirement was junior college degree, the amount was9203, account for40.96%, they were mainly assigned to village clinics and township hospitals. Secondly, we need bachelor’s degree personels, account for35.51%, they ware mainly assigned to TCM hospitals and township hospitals.The major profession requirement was12767TCM personnels, account for56.42%.Conclusion:The count of the TCM personels was yet less than the all medicine personels in the medical institutions which could afford TCM service at various levels in Gansu, the propotion of the total was also lower, especially in the general hospitals. The age strcture was reasonable, but the educational background was lower, especially the advanced degree talents was too fewer. The job title structure comgpared with the intelligent ratio still has certain disparity. The difference of the ratio compared licensed (assistant) physicians to the registered nurses with the demand of the WHO was larger. The requirement to the TCM personels was need more; the impotant institutions were basic unit medical establishment. In order to develop the Chinese medicine career more quickly and efficiently, we need to increase the number and quality of the TCM personels. Tables:30, References:50.
