Objective:To study the effects, indication and complications of the endoscopic third ventriculostomy(ETV) treating communicating hydrocephalus(CHP).Methods:Retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of23cases with CHP treated with ETV and92cases with CHP treated with the Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS), Divided into secondary and idiopathic group, high cranial pressure and normal cranial pressure group, and statistically analyzed the efficiency and complications of operations of different groups from January2010to December2013in neurosurgery department of the first clinical affiliated hospital of Zhengzhou university.Results:The difference of the effectiency of ETV and VPS in the totle and the different groups was not statistically significant; Complications:The difference of recent complications was not statistically significant; Long-term complications of ETV group was lower than the VPS, the difference was statistically significant.Conclusion:Except for having surgical contraindication of ETV, most patients with CHP would be treating with ETV, the effect of ETV is exact and clear; The long-term complications of ETV were significantly reduced.
