OBJECTIVETo evaluate the visual function, reading ability, contrast sensitivity and visual quality of life after implantation of aspheric diffractiye multifocal Tecnis ZMAOO and monofocal Sensar intraocular lenses (IOLs).METHONDS:120suitable patients (120eyes) who were performed phacoemulsif ication with intraocular lens implantation by the same ophthalmologist were allocated into two groups:sixty patients (60eyes) were implanted ZMAOO intraocular lens, sixty patients (60eyes) were implanted Sensar intraocular lens. One day, one week, four weeks, eight weeks and twelve weeks after operation, the following parameters were assessed:distant vision, intermediate and near vision, contrast sensitivity, reading visual acuity and reading speed, vision symptom and quality of life. After that, all the data would be input into computer to establish database and perform statistical analysis of variance.RESULTS1. There was no statistical difference (P>0.05) in distant vision between the two groups at1D,1W,4W,8W and12W after surgery. The intermediate and near vision of the ZMAOO intraocular lens group was significantly higher than Sensar groups (P<0.05) at1D,1W,4W,8W and12W after surgery.2. The contrast measurement without glare was significantly better for ZMAOO group than than for the Sensar groups (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference in the contrast measurement with glare and the red test between the two groups (P>0.05). The dark adaptation time of the ZMAOO group was shorter than the Sensar group (P<0.05) 3. Reading visual acuity and reading speed in ZMAOO group was better than those in Sensar group (P<0.05)4. According to the questionnaire of the visual quality of life, ZMAOO group is better at reading a newspaper, mobile phone short message read, read the print, do fine activity, fill in the form, live entertainment (playing mahjong, poker) than those in Sensar group(P<0.05). There is no significant difference between two groups in ace recognition, identification, recognition of traffic signs mark the stairs, sports activities (such as Tai Chi, kick), cook, watch TV, driving or riding a bicycle (P>0.05).5. ZMAOO group has higher rate of spectable independence than the Sensar group (P<0.05)CONCLUSIONTwo groups of IOLs allowed greater distance visual acuity; however, ZMAOO group produced better intermediate and near vision and more pseudoaccommodation and spectacle independence. ZMAOO group was better in contrast sensitivity without glare and had shorter dark adaptation time than Sensar group. Reading visual acuity and reading speed in ZMAOO group was better than those in Sensar group. Two types of lens implantation could improve the quality of life of the patients, but the patients with ZMAOO implantation were beter at the near activity. In conclusion, we could select the various intraocular lens according to different requirement of patients.
