The Application Of Uterine Artery Embolization In The Treatment Of Uterine Leiomyomas

Objective:To explore the therapeutic effects of uterine artery embolization (UAE) on uterine leiomyomas.Methods:150patients with uterine leiomyomas who underwent the UAE in Yanbian hospital from2003to2005were chosen. Then the adverse reactions after operation were observed,and the clinical symptoms and the size of uterine at3、6、1224months after the UAE were compared with preoperative.Result:Post the treatment period, all patients appeared in different degrees such as the syndrome of post embolism, it will gradually decreased after symptomatic treatment. The curative effects were observed after sixth month operation that9cases of patients have no significant change,41case of patients with menstrual quantity decreased significantly and menstrual duration shortened obviously in the50cases of preoperative patients have obvious menstrual changes.27cases of progressive dysmenorrhea patients reduce the clinical symptoms obviously;3patients of shortened menstrual cycle have been returned to normal;14patients of irregular vaginal bleeding have improved obviously;63cases of mild and moderate anemia patients after12months latter that Hb were restored to normal levels.2cases of patients of serious anemia when post-operative Hb increased to more than90g/L; The symptoms of pelvic compression have improved after treatment,85%evidently and15%slightly,in all patients.3months latter the volume of uterine and fibroid respectively decreased38.1%and38.1%,from6to24months both progressive narrowing. There were10cases of submucous fibromyoma automatically discharged through vagina after6to12months. The total effective rate after6,12and24months respectively90.2%、96.3%、98.3%. Show the efficiency and total effective rate was proportional to the time after UAE.Conclusion:1、UAE was an effective way to treat the uterine fibroids.The clinical symptoms of leiomyomas were obviously improved, the leiomyomas and uterine volume were also shrink by UAE. It is suit for young patients with fertility requirements and patients who refuse operation.2-.
