Objective:Analyzing the correlation factors to prevent pediatric ocular traumaoccur. Methods:A population-based study of68pediatric patients hospitalized(69eyes) for ocular trauma in the ophthalmology departments of Dali CollegeHospital from1st April2010to31st January2014was performed. Toretrospectivel summarize their age, gender, nationality, admitdate, thetime of injury, region, vulnerant, complication, surgery, the number ofoperation, initiative and final visual.Analyzing the statistics byspss17.0software,whether the final visual acuity was improved aftertreatmeant and whether using ocular trauma score in pediatric (POTS)toevaluate the final visual acuity was correlation and statisticalsignificance. Exploring the relation-ship between the causes ofblindness and solutions. Results:Pediatric ocular trauma was common occurred in rural and remotemountain area(66cases),county towns were relatively few(2cases);Themean pediatric age was9.34±4.54years with a male-to-female ratio of70.6%:29.4%. The nationality was mainly composed of Bai nationality and Han Nationality, the ratio is38.2%:35.3%;Monocular injured was about67cases(OD:30cases,OS:37cases),The injured oculus was1case;24(34.8%)eyes suffered closed globe injuries,44(63.8%)eyes exhibited open globeinjuries; The most vulnerants were sharp metals which is10case(14.7%),the second vulnerants were plants(10.3%). The cornealperforation were the most complication after ocular trauma, with thehighest incidence of47.1%(32cases),the next was cataract which contains23cases(33.8%); The most operation methods were combined emergencydebridment and suturing of corneal and sclera penetrating injury withother operations. By treating the pediatric, their final visual acuitywas improved significantly. Statistical analysis was performed withSPSS17.0Software. Categorical variables were tested with t-test. AP-value0.000<0.05was considered statistically significant.POTS andfinal visual acuity was posotive correlated(r=0.951,p=0.013),there wasvaluable and statistical significance in evaluating final visual acuityof children after ocular injury of pediatric.Conclusions:1、Most of the pediatric ocular trauma was happened in rural areas, especially in remote mountainous regions. The school-age children werein dominance. Boys were more than girls. The first was penetrating woundand the second is closed-globe trauma. The most common vulnerants wereSharp metals. The main complication was corneal perforation.2、Postoperative visual acuity was improved obviously. There was acorrelation and statistical significance by using ocular trauma score inpediatric (POTS)to evaluate the final visual acuity.3、Emergency surgery and symptomatic treatment is significant to theprevention blindness. The most important consideration is that oculartrauma preventive publicity should be faced in our society and all the families with children...
